Apologies if this has been asked before but are group Pilates or yoga classes allowed in Tier 2 now?

Not indoors

edwinbear · 27/11/2020 16:13

My spin and power pump classes start again next Weds (Tier 2), so I can't see why not.

PatienceVirtue · 27/11/2020 16:15

I think they are, aren't they?
This is what Independent says:
Gyms will be open in tier 2 from Wednesday December 2, including indoor exercise classes. However those visiting both the gym and/or participating in classes will (where possible) have to avoid mixing with people they don’t live with or share a support bubble with.

FVFrog · 27/11/2020 16:16

Pilates instructor and studio owner here! Yes they are if they are in a Covid safe compliant environment with appropriate distancing and no mixing.
2 metres apart, wear your mask to your mat, no mingling with people before or after class, maintain 2 metre distance when exiting and entering. Appropriate cleaning protocols and ventilation and footage space per person observed.

edwinbear · 27/11/2020 16:16

My gym (Better) have e mailed saying it will be the same as before lockdown 2.0. So we will have to stay in our allocated 'square' on the floor, one way systems, no mixing, spin bikes socially distanced etc.

StarsOnThars · 27/11/2020 16:16

That's the thing. Mixing with. What does that even mean?

Yes they are - the pilates place I go to has taken advice, and its fine as long as there's no household mixing and strict social distancing. So, we will enter separately, wear masks until we're at our mats - all of which are marked out 2 m+ from each other. And repeat the process at the end. And we have been told we can't gather to chat, even in the area outside, before or after the class.

edwinbear · 27/11/2020 16:19

Mixing (to me) means the general chit chat before and after class with your gym buddies.

ifonly4 · 27/11/2020 16:21

My class is back on. As before, we have to stick to our area and not socialise indoors.

Delatron · 27/11/2020 20:04

For me (Pilates instructor) it’s the mingling and mixing that’s the problem. I have very chatty classes. My studio is in my garden and it doesn’t seem right I can have people indoors there but not actual friends in my house. I know it’s work and for the economy and that’s why it’s allowed.

I’m sticking with online for now.

StarsOnThars · 28/11/2020 08:25

@Delatron your classes sound lovely. Hope you can get back to them soon.

Normal sense of the word.

You come and go an an individual, in order to take exercise. No social aspect.

Ginfordinner · 28/11/2020 08:34

I have been doing pilates online since lockdown. It works really well.

Delatron · 28/11/2020 08:50

Ah thanks @StarsOnThars I do hope I can get back to seeing people in person soon.

I’m lucky that there is the technology to do this online. And i have people joining from the other side of the country who wouldn’t normally be able to come to my class so that’s a bonus in a way.

Pleased you’re enjoying online classes @Ginfordinner
