I still feel there will be at least another six months before things are normal

OP posts:
kittensarecute · 27/11/2020 10:35

Nope. Can't do this for six more months at least.

Baileysforchristmas · 27/11/2020 10:35

I agree, I think it’s going to take longer to obtain and administer the vaccine than the government have estimated. Always under promise and over deliver. A lot of people are struggling to cope, I can see social unrest next year if the government don’t sort their act out.

PaperTowels · 27/11/2020 10:36

I think that getting to spring will help a lot.

JosephineDeBeauharnais · 27/11/2020 10:38

My fear is that there will be insufficient take up of the vaccine to allow for complete freedom. Also, there’s an awful lot of folks who rather like the restrictions and there will be a surprising degree of resistance to a full return to normal. I’m feeling very pessimistic tbh.

Toppered · 27/11/2020 10:39

I reckon we have hit halfway, shortly to go backwards after Christmas due to 'gatherings'

I bet the older generation are laughing, we can't even sit on a sofa in the warm and not meet people, we have to 'have bubbles' else we winge while they had to send their children to be evacuated whilst they went to war, It makes me sick.

Sorry Angry

*not aimed at anyone on here btw.

beguilingeyes · 27/11/2020 10:39

Boris lies...all the time...as soon as he starts wittering on about the cavalry I tune out.

MorrisZapp · 27/11/2020 10:39

Well there's a lot in between where we are now, and normal. Things will start to ease from February onwards, most likely. We won't be fully normal til nearer the end of next year but christ, we need hope.

This winter is going to be dull and bleak at best, horrific at worst. But it WILL get better quickly after that.

feelingverylazytoday · 27/11/2020 10:40

I disagree. I think it's a realistic timeline.

tortoiseshell1985 · 27/11/2020 10:41

I agree don't think vaccine going get approved
I physically can't stand more Whitty misery
He's enjoying his moment of fame I think

oneglassandpuzzled · 27/11/2020 10:43

I don’t get that impression of Whitty at all.

Baileysforchristmas · 27/11/2020 10:45

I can imagine a lot of people don’t want it to go back to how it was before. I know someone who has been in Dubai for most of his time he was furloughed, he has to come back to work on the 2nd, he’s not happy about it. My life hasn’t changed much so I don’t find it to bad. I’ll be glad when all the busy bodies can’t be telling everyone what to do anymore.

IcedPurple · 27/11/2020 10:48

The next few months are gong to be shit, with on-off restrictions, but by spring I think things will be much better. The virus will naturually be less prevalent then (last year was exceptional) and the vaccination programme will be well underway. Fingers crossed by summer we will be pretty much back to normal, except perhaps for large events and some aspects of international travel.

Crazycatlady83 · 27/11/2020 10:53

Don’t forget that the regulators have been doing a rolling review so they do know quite a bit about the vaccine. We also know who the vaccine targets the most and who we need to protect. Once the vaccine is approved (and I don’t think it will be long), we can start protecting those people. As older people are protected and hospital admissions / deaths inevitably start to fall, restrictions will ease.

I do think there will be a high take up of the vaccine. It’s all well and good saying on social media that you don’t trust it / vaccines take years to develop / they want to microchip up blah blah blah - but when faced with lots of people starting to go about their daily business, friends meeting up, schools getting back to normal with after school clubs, assemblies etc, I think you will find people what the personal protection a vaccine will give (we don’t know if it will stop transmission but headline results say it will stop serious covid) We are a selfish species so people will see it’s the only way to protect themselves and their family once they are forced to engage with normal life again.

Don’t lose hope

Mintjulia · 27/11/2020 10:54

Six months takes up to May.

December - one or more vaccines licensed, shipments into the UK, over 85s and their carers vaccinated
Jan - establish community vaccination program, vaccination of everyone over 80 plus other NHS
Feb - over 70s and other vulnerable groups
March - over 60s
April - over 50s

....seems likely.

kittensarecute · 27/11/2020 10:56

I need my normality back, I just can't do this anymore, I've started self-harming - I've got nothing to be here for, I can't do my beloved theatre which is my passion in life, I can't even hug my best friend, I've got nothing to look forward to at all. I don't know why I'm still here.

Mischance · 27/11/2020 10:57

Six months at the very least. It is the winter that is hard for us all to get through; when spring comes the days will be longer, the weather will be brighter and we will be outside more. Just the next few months to endure.

kittensarecute · 27/11/2020 10:58

Nope. Cant do it. I'm tired of all this, I'm done.
helloxhristmas · 27/11/2020 10:58

Spring / Easter hopefully. I'm sorry you're struggling @kittensarecute it is really shit

Baileysforchristmas · 27/11/2020 10:59

@Crazycatlady83 but why would people take the vaccine if they are not at risk especially if it doesn’t stop you catching it? I know quite a few people that have had it and 90% of them have been fine.

eddiemairswife · 27/11/2020 11:00

Toppered It is the children who were evacuated who are old now; their parents are long gone.

Figgygal · 27/11/2020 11:01

Why are we thinking spring will be a magical solution we were locked down in spring this year!!
Don’t believe the vaccine is this magic instantaneous bullet it’s going to be the back end of next year even with a vaccine before we approach normality according to the head of vaccine studies so people need to be more realistic

OK I'm hiding this thread, I don't need scaremongering comments like that, if this is so then I might as well just end it all now.

@Toppered but its not just sitting on a couch is it? Its asking people to go without seeing family and friends for the best part of a year now. The windows weve been allowed to see them have involved altering our behaviour to go against every natural human instinct . Peoples outlets for stress relief are gone. People have lost businesses they've spent all their lives building.

Stop belittling what is being asked of people with these restrictions.

Mintjulia · 27/11/2020 11:04

@Baileysforchristmas because I have elderly relatives I haven't seen since March. I want to hold a big relaxed family summer party and hug my sister. without worrying I may harm her or her husband.

So, yes, I'll be vaccinated at the first opportunity.

TheStripes · 27/11/2020 11:05

I think we have another year, maybe more. Only difference is that as time goes on, we won’t be needing to be so restrictive with what we can and can’t do.
