Will anywhere be in tier 1?

Do you think anywhere will be in tier 1? Looking at www.covidmessenger.com/coronavirusliveupdate/ the place with the fewest new cases is Teignbridge which is on 53 cases per 100,000 over the last 7 days. It wasn’t long ago when being above 50 was really bad.

Crap. Tier sodding 2.

With a case rate of just under 50 per 100,000, yet we're in a tier with other counties that have triple or more cases than ours. I totally appreciate there has to be a line drawn somewhere, but I'm failing to see what that line actually looked like in this case!

We were T1 previously, now T3.

I think the line was 'we don't actually want to use tier 1 at all, but there are a tiny number of places where it'll be impossible to justify not using it'. 98.7% of people now under tier 2 or 3...

I’d be surprised if Cornwall keeps its Tier 1 status for long...,,. What with students heading back to family homes there, and people heading to their second homes for Christmas. That’s half of London making their way down there then 😅. Surely it’ll push numbers up?

Fifthtimelucky · 26/11/2020 13:04

I agree with @Hardbackwriter

I'm now moving into tier 2, which is a disappointment given our low numbers, but is still an improvement on the current arrangements because the gym will be open.

Fingers crossed for the review on 16 December!

I’d be very surprised if anywhere moves down to Tier 1 pre-Christmas....in fact doubtful many areas will come down before February 😐. As per my comment a few pages back, the government is reluctant to let people have the option of mixing indoors....

Snap. Rumours are flying here that it’s because people from a nearby Tier 3 town came here for pubs and restaurants last time, but I suspect it’s because the local uni one town over is now reporting cases with their term-time address, rather than their home address. We have a lot of students here.

I feel so frustrated and sad today.

I just can't believe that venues and exercise and sorts events are all open, which I regard as quite risky, but you can't meet one person indoors. Madness. 1000 people indoors for some purposes.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 26/11/2020 13:41

Rubbish isn't it Hope, I'm like you with feeling sad & frustrated. We've got some of the lowest rate in the West Midlands (as region, not the conurbation) & they're falling. I expected T2 but not 3.

I can't see it changing on 16th December either, sadly because of high rates at the top end of my county.

And stadiums can open again (2000 spectators or 50% capacity) up to and including Tier 2. Seems loony to me - only every other seat left empty? Some of these stadiums are only really open on one side. I thought they were waiting for the quick testing kits. Guess someone in the industry has exerted some pressure on the government or reminded them of a past generous donation...
