So happy that my partner and big family can all be together this year. We are all really close and get on brilliantly. So pleased at the news today!

I don't know whether to laugh or cry if someone genuinely thinks 1 in 4 people were carrying Covid at any point.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 22/11/2020 22:37
@ElizabethG81

Because at 2 points during the last 7 months, 1 in four people were carrying covid... it is very real
25% of the population had covid? wow I didn't know that. I mean, I know that it's likely that the real number of positive cases is higher than the 1.5 million confirmed cases, but you're saying that approx 17 million of us have had it. Incredible.

HoHoHolyMackerel · 22/11/2020 22:38

Sweet jesus so much misinformation

TheAlphaandtheOmega · 22/11/2020 22:40

17 million twice, so half the country

Echobelly · 22/11/2020 22:40

People know that at any given time, the vast majority of people don't have COVID. The trouble is that we don't know who is in the minority that is infectious. If you have people meeting up for hours together in a house, the biggest risk situation, in 10s of millions of who will probably do it regardless of the rules, you are storing up trouble - not just for them but others who come into contact with them in the month afterwards.

It's just one Christmas. One Christmas and it looks like there should be a vaccination programme kicking off next year. If people can just step back this one year, we will be out of this much sooner.

Sadly people are rubbish at delayed gratification. People who want to hang back from Christmas aren't miserablists - they want to see more of their families sooner. You will see much more of your family next year if you don't see them at Christmas.

@starfro

Maybe it is bullshit.. but it was literally said on the BBC news back in April time.. they said 1 in four people were carrying covid.. .. I only assume that since we had a 2nd peak with the same amount of deaths then it was roughly the same amount of people carrying it at this point too. Not a reliable source I know. But BBC news stated back in April that roughly 1 in four were carrying it... if you think that's not correct then fine but I believe it

ElizabethG81 · 22/11/2020 22:43

Grin We'll all have had it by Christmas anyway then at this rate. Brings that death rate right down too.
Duemarch2021 · 22/11/2020 22:43

😅 I'm only going by BBC news!

ElizabethG81 · 22/11/2020 22:45

That's your mistake Grin It would be lovely if half the country had had it without really knowing about it, but the antibody tests done over the summer didn't seem to point to that.
Lindy2 · 22/11/2020 22:46

I'd rather lives were saved rather than Christmas.

GreenClock · 22/11/2020 22:47

There are now going to be lots of reluctant people being coerced by relatives into attending or hosting gatherings! Hopefully they’ll have the confidence to say no.

BillMasen · 22/11/2020 22:47

It’s a terrible decision and plays to those who do not understand the seriousness of this virus. I’m worried we’ll all pay for this.

Stupid stupid stupid

veeeeh · 22/11/2020 22:47

Provocative.

It is hiding Brexit. Take care everyone.

For how many Christmases? What about next Christmas if flu's rife? Happy for a lockdown then, "to save even just one life"?
Caroncarona · 22/11/2020 22:49

I'd rather have a bit more careful freedom now than a big blow out at Christmas and locked down for months after. Is it really worth all this just for a couple of days? I don't think it is. It's shit.

MotherofPearl · 22/11/2020 22:49

Some people seem to have a pathological attachment to Christmas (I don't mean the religious side of it, just everything else). I find it bizarre.

It’s madness it’s not like it’s Xmas 1980 we literally can call/text/zoom/FaceTime whatever and keep in touch

FredtheFerret · 22/11/2020 22:54

Yey! Up to three households! Which of my 3 children who don't live here full time shall we leave on their own?

AlecTrevelyan006 · 22/11/2020 22:57

This current lockdown is due to end on 2 December - do the anti Christmas people just think the lockdown should continue?

happystone · 22/11/2020 22:57

Can’t wait to see my Nan at Christmas 5 in my household kids ages 18 to 21 do you think this will be safe. definitely Would be nana last Christmas. I think if you see your family at Christmas you are thick or don’t like them.

madeamist · 22/11/2020 23:00

It’ll just be January lockdown to deal with the covid rates going up after all the celebrations

We’ve already been told we’re going back to Tiers

I don’t think a Zoom call of us eating Christmas dinner to DS who lives alone is quite what I would be happy doing
happystone · 22/11/2020 23:04

If you do lives alone he can bubble with you
