If hotels and holiday homes opened in December would you go?

OP posts:
tassisssss · 22/11/2020 18:54

I have told DH I'd like a night in a hotel at the end of the Christmas holidays but only if at least some of the spa options are open. Happy to stay local. Realistic enough to realise that it might have to be postponed.

HairyToity · 22/11/2020 18:54

No, but only as my husband is self employed and in a high risk group. We can't afford for him to be off work for weeks on end. I know some families that have had covid, and been taking their chances more.

JamonCroissant · 22/11/2020 18:56

We've booked a cottage for Christmas but I'm expecting it to be cancelled. If it isn't, we'll go.

RegularHumanBartender · 22/11/2020 19:04

100% yes! Have 2 weekends away booked in December.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 22/11/2020 20:31

Yes, we've got a long weekend booked from 4th December and if the apartment is available we're going. We've also got a couple of hotel stays booked.

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 22/11/2020 20:35

Hope to, have plans for first weekend in December if things reopen. We cancelled our expensive Airbnb for that weekend in case restaurants and pubs remain closed but we will book a hotel if things do open up. I am so desperate to get away😫

SabrinaTheTeenageBitch · 22/11/2020 20:38

We have a santa stopover booked in December. Im a little bit wary about travelling (DH booked it as a surprise although in his defence this was long before second lockdown) but kids are desperately hoping it isn't cancelled so I feel a bit stuck

Coquohvan · 22/11/2020 20:57

Booked in Feb this year to take grandchildren and their parents to Lapland. Two night stay in a log cabin gutted it was cancelled moved to next year.
Children didn’t know as was a surprise for them, which is a blessing.

FreshFreesias · 22/11/2020 21:05

Yes

Peasinthefreezer · 22/11/2020 21:08

Yes - have a 2 night break booked in central London just before Christmas! We live in an outer borough of London but fancied the idea of being up town seeing the lights and a few nice meals out. Really hope they are open more for the sake of the hospitality industry!

Lifestooshort1542 · 22/11/2020 23:05

Yes! We have a winter wonderland break booked at Centre Parcs in December and if we can go we will 100% be there this year has been tough on everyone, and my DS has taken all the adjustments, restrictions with not seeing family and grandparents and new rules in his stride I want to make things as normal and exciting before Christmas as I can 🙂

Goingdooolally · 22/11/2020 23:08

Yes, they’re not shut here.

Calmandmeasured1 · 22/11/2020 23:11

I would if I had any holidays left to take (assuming it was allowed).

blibblibs · 22/11/2020 23:17

I hope so, I need air bnb to be operational. DM has just been diagnosed stage 4 so we're planning to isolate for two weeks and visit at Christmas.
However she isn't well enough and her place isn't big enough to accommodate us so we need somewhere to isolate while we visit so our usual hotel is no good.
Otherwise I have no idea what we'll do Sad

Dotinthecity · 23/11/2020 00:14

Yes. We've been away for a few long weekends and a couple of weeks in August. I wouldn't hesitate to go away again.

TheSunIsStillShining · 23/11/2020 01:12

Please go to as many places as you can afford. Make sure you cough, sneeze on everyone around you. If impossible: lean in!
It is really important that the virus gets everywhere. Because as soon as gov says it's fine common sense and science just bolts out the window.
And everyone knows you need to go otherwise you'll get MH issues because you are "sooo tired of lockdown!"

Of course you should go in a middle of a pandemic in a country that has one of the worse death rates and where gov is obviously not following the science.

You people really can't see that this is just drawing it out?

HollyandIvyandallthingsYule · 23/11/2020 02:23

I’d go down south to see my daughters. Or have them up here to see us.

SilenceOfThePrams · 23/11/2020 06:36

@TheSunIsStillShining my teen is suicidal, self harming, and CAMHS can do nothing right now. We live in an area with lower than average rates, will be travelling (without stopping en route) to another low area, where we will continue to have food delivered, and be mixing with no one but taking lots of walks in empty countryside.

We will be supporting the holiday cottage owners. We won’t, on this occasion, be pouring pounds back into other local economies since we shan’t be visiting our usual haunts and pubs.

But we need to breathe clean air and see beautiful landscapes. I’m sorry that upsets you. Oh, and my child is CEV and shielding, so we are being extra cautious. But we still need a break from these four walls, we need to be able to get somewhere where my child can in fact leave the house without being closely surrounded by other people.

Dowser · 23/11/2020 07:28

like a rat up a drainpipe.!

I’ve been home from Tenerife for three weeks now and can’t wait to go back next month.

Dowser · 23/11/2020 07:30

@TheSunIsStillShining

I think you are absolutely spot on.
Well said.
We never should have gone into lockdown, we should have still mixed, sensibly.

AuntieMarys · 23/11/2020 07:35

Yes...we have a couple of nights booked in London next month

trappedsincesundaymorn · 23/11/2020 07:37

I've just buried my dad 7 months after burying my mum. I can see the house they lived in (that I grew up in), from my living room window. Right now I would love to be somewhere where I can't see it, just for a few days. Somewhere where I can just get my head together and try to come to terms with losing not 1, but 2 of the most important people in my life. My mental health issues aren't because I'm "sooo tired of lockdown!",
PersonaNonGarter · 23/11/2020 07:55

No - but that’s because the social distancing/face masks in the communal areas/no buffet stuff would really cut across my idea of a nice hotel stay.

As soon as that stuff goes, I’ll be back.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 23/11/2020 07:57

@TheSunIsStillShining don't be ridiculous.

It's possible to go away and be sensible. If we can go we're planning on getting takeaways or eating in each night, not going anywhere that's overcrowded, wearing masks and social distancing in the same way we do at home.

KitKatastrophe · 23/11/2020 07:59

In theory yes, I wouldnt be concerned about covid

In practise no because I dont fancy a holiday with 2 small kids in Winter.

I've booked Butlins for march next year.
