Tested positive but feels like flu

JellyTots2009 · 21/11/2020 19:11

Hi I have a weekly test at work and I tested myself Sunday morning. Got a phone call Tuesday to say I tested positive. I only had a blocked nose up to that point.
Since Tuesday I have steadily gotten worse to the point I need tablets every 4 hours.
I have the most awful aches all over my body, hot then cold, my nose is still blocked.
I couldn't lift myself off the sofa today other than to use the toilet and then just now come back to bed.

I've looked up flu symptoms and I tick a lot of them, so I'm wondering if these are actually covid symptoms or I've been unlucky and caught covid and flu at the same time?

Just after other people with/or had symptoms similar to mine and how long it took for you to fully get over it.
I hope to be able to clean my house at some point in the next few days but atm it's impossible.

Poor you, just look after yourself I’m sure you’ll be feeling better soon x

JellyTots2009 · 21/11/2020 20:37

Thank you all for the informative comments.
I think I overdone it yesterday and I'm paying today I know now to rest. The back ache and not getting comfy is a pain to deal with, but I understand many more people are suffering so much worse.

I tested positive for COVID in the first wave and mist symptoms (except the cough and lack of smell and taste) were the same as flu for me.

Get well soon.

ktp100 · 21/11/2020 20:58

You do realise that the flu is also a corona virus, right? All of the corona viruses have crossover symptoms.

Feeling achy and fatigued are both common symptoms of Covid.

You've had a positive test so I'd just take it as that. No .need to worry yourself about the flu

rainbowunicorn · 21/11/2020 21:01

@Ohalrightthen

... you're aware that Covid-19 and flu are two versions of the same type of disease, right?

Isolate, get a home test, do not go anywhere or see anyone until you have a negative test.

Jeez.

Why the need to be so horrible?

You should try reading properly, then you would know that she has had a positive test and at no point suggests that she is not isolating.

FundamentallyFucked · 21/11/2020 21:02

I've looked up flu symptoms

Why the fuck did you look up flu symptoms Hmm

You have Covid, look up fucking Covid symptoms.

This really does take 'weird shit that people do due to covid' to another level.

RichardMarxisinnocent · 21/11/2020 21:13

No. Flu is caused by aninfluenza virus, covid is caused by a coronavirus (called SARS-CoV-2). An influenza virus is not a coronavirus, it's an influenza virus.

Flu is not a coronavirus, it's an influenza virus.

Known coronaviruses include SARS, MERS, and several "common cold" viruses.

The important thing about COVID-19 not being an influenza virus is that it's not going to mutate rapidly/yearly like flu.

Why so angry? OP isn't denying she has Covid, she's had a positive test, she was just curious about if she could have flu and Covid at the same time as her symptoms are so similar to flu and she wasn't aware that Covid and flu symptoms were the same, hence the post. Relax.

Poppingnostopping · 21/11/2020 21:25

I had flu a few weeks ago and it was so similar to Covid I got tested, but tested negative. Same feeling you are describing, just wiped out. Didn't have the blocked nose, only the feeling like you've been run over by a bus.

Flu and Covid are very similar in symptoms if you google a comparison checker, so it's not surprising you feel like you have flu!

Poppingnostopping · 21/11/2020 21:29

I think you can have flu and Covid at the same time, though, so why would anyone be cross the OP thought about this?

ThirstyGhost · 21/11/2020 21:40

Yes, that's what people are worried about as it's possible to get both at the same time unfortunately it seems.

I don't know why people have to be so aggressive and unpleasant to an OP who is feeling ill. Particularly loving the angry ones saying, doesn't OP realise flu is a coronavirus too, WHEN IT ISN'T. Flu is caused by infection with influenza viruses.

I hope it's a mild dose you have OP and that you get better soon.

JellyTots2009 · 21/11/2020 21:59

I think fundamentallyfucked needed to get something off her chest Smile
Maybe I should have also added in my OP that I looked up covid symptoms too, but you go ahead and assume I didn't...

Thanks once again to the people that were nice and didn't feel they had to make me look stupid by swearing in their post and being nasty.
What people do behind a keyboard ay...

I'm not angry

Well it would have helped because yes I did take your post at face value. Bad habit of mine.

lljkk · 21/11/2020 22:01

Hope you feel better soon, OP. x

PrivateD00r · 21/11/2020 22:06

Aw that sounds pretty classic covid op. Did you have the flu vaccine? It would be seriously bad luck to have both at the same time though not impossible of course. But honestly, what you describe sounds like most people I know who have had cv, including myself. Take it easy Flowers

ShalomToYouJackie · 21/11/2020 22:11

I'm not angry I interpreted your swearing twice at the OP to mean you were angry/upset at them for Googling what flu symptoms were.

onlyconnect · 21/11/2020 22:16

Those who say it's straightforward, I don't think it is at all. People seem to have all sorts of symptoms and it can be hard to know when to get a test.
I've had the flu jab but currently ache all over with loss of appetite but none of the Covid symptoms we've been told about ( no cough, no temp, can still smell and taste). I haven't had a test because there's no reason to think it's Covid but it could be when you read the range of symptoms people have.

ThirstyGhost · 21/11/2020 22:49

With all the swearing and shouting at the OP a few of us assumed that you were angry. You know - just taking your post at face value... But yeah, I'm sure in reality you're a happy go lucky ray of fucking sunshine.
Storyofcats · 21/11/2020 23:03

I felt like I had flu when I had covid, I didnt leave the house for 6 weeks, I lost a stone and could barely get up and down the stairs. It's very variable but can definitely be painful and exhausting. Try and rest as much as you can!

Alfiemoon1 · 21/11/2020 23:29

Sorry you are feeling unwell op I was working on the test and trace welfare calls and flu symptoms were very common plenty of rest and fluids and take it easy lots felt slightly better so did a bit of housework and it wiped them out for the next few days. Wishing you a full a speedy recovery

FundamentallyFucked · 21/11/2020 23:30

I interpreted your swearing twice at the OP to mean you were angry/upset at them for Googling what flu symptoms were.

Nah, I just have a filthy mouth. I did think it was a bit bizarre to Google flu when OP has covid and then try to convince themselves that it's not covid, but I'm certainly not angry.

FundamentallyFucked · 21/11/2020 23:32

With all the swearing and shouting at the OP a few of us assumed that you were angry. You know - just taking your post at face value...

That's perfectly normal. I am allowed to reply to those assumptions and let people know I'm not angry.

But yeah, I'm sure in reality you're a happy go lucky ray of fucking sunshine.

Not really. I'm just a normal person that occasionally has a 'what the fuck' moment.
@audreyseyebrows not prescribed in hospital as such and only if as pps have said if you don't take it for the full 24 hours.
V narrow window to overdose so sensible to stick to 6 hourly
NHS website says four hourly.
