DH tested positive today. No symptoms except for fatigue, slight fever, and loss of taste. I am heavily pregnant and have 3 DC and DSS who was supposed to be here for the weekend only but will stay the 14 days for isolation, his mother is fine with this. DH's father is also here and although he is healthy and fit he is over 70. We are all negative so far.

We have a flat, 10 minutes away from us that we rent out through Airbnb, and we're expecting guests mid next week for 2 weeks. Would I be unreasonable to cancel that stay for the guests with a full refund so that DH can move in there this evening for the next two weeks? The other option would be to move DD to a different room and DH to DD's room as it's in the attic and is an en-suite so there would be very little contact with DH except sending meals up and him working out of there (of course if he doesn't get worse).

What would be the best option for all involved including the potential guests?

I’d cancel the air BnB and put FIL in that property for his own protection.

Even if he doesn’t catch it from DH, DH could pass it to you/kids and it could keep circulating. The highest risk is to FIL.

FundamentallyFucked · 21/11/2020 16:12

The more you are exposed to the virus, the more likely you are to catch it.

Ok, be a bit more careful. But move out!?

Gimmeveg · 21/11/2020 16:15

You ordered the tests on Friday
So delivered earliest yesterday
And you already have the results?
Hmm

Hamm87 · 21/11/2020 16:15

What do people not understand none of them can move out or leave the house period for 14 days so no moving anyone to the flat

Gimmeveg · 21/11/2020 16:16

Sorry you ordered the tests on Thursday
Delivered on Friday
And somehow you have the results today?

Brot64 · 21/11/2020 16:17

@FundamentallyFucked he is concerned about infecting us and his father particularly because of his father's age. So thought that it would be better if he is away from all of us. Yes we have been exposed but our tests came back negative. As I have said we will test with the same clinic again next week as they have advised us to do so. So far only DH has the symptoms.

Gimmeveg · 21/11/2020 16:18

But op how have you got the results if you only ordered them on Thursday??

SilverBirchWithout · 21/11/2020 16:18

Watch John campbells video on Covid & pregnancy

Anecdotal evidence is not science, however my DS is an anaesthetist registrar who has been working in ITU this year. He has personally incubated 3 pregnant women in their 30s this year, 2 subsequently died. Their only risk factors were being BAME and pregnant. Please take the risks seriously.

Brot64 · 21/11/2020 16:19

Yes rapid tests results are between 4-6 hrs here. We got our results in 5 hours. This is not through the NHS.

She said it was a private rapid test!
Fruitsaladjelly · 21/11/2020 16:20

Airbnb can still operate for people needing to travel for work, to provide care, various exceptions. No I wouldn’t cancel your guest, you’ve already been infected if you haven’t already been in the past. I wouldn’t worry.

* Coronavirus and pregnancy*
Q. What is the main advice for pregnant women?
There is no evidence that pregnant women are more likely to get seriously ill from coronavirus but pregnant women have been included in the list of people at moderate risk (clinically vulnerable) as a precaution. The government guidance for the clinically vulnerable remains in place and you should ensure you continue to follow the latest government guidance.**

@Hamm87

Not completely, some movement in this careful situation can be permitted on safety grounds to protect more vulnerable people.

I tested positive whilst in hospital. I didn't self isolate in the hospital for that whole time. I went home for most of my self isolation time in order to protect the more vulnerable people around me in hospital and because medically I no longer needed in patient help.

And Dh, who was now having to self isolate, collected me in the car from the hospital too.

This was all done in accordance with currently rules. No one was put at risk by doing this - Dh moved from house to our car (in the drive) to the hospital and back.

There'd be no difference in this situation really either - house to car, car to flat.

Hamm87 · 21/11/2020 16:28

There is a difference its a house to house he can not leave his registered address also what happens if he crashes his car he puts more ppl at risk the whole house has been exposed they can not leave unless there house is burning down simple really we know this as had similar issues within the family no one can leave hospital to home is completely different

SilverBirchWithout · 21/11/2020 16:34

Gimmeveg yes I know the official advice - I checked before posting.
But I personally wouldn’t take the risk.
The 3 cases were heartbreaking for the ITU staff and families. One of the babies survived after being delivered by CSection, their mum died a few hours later. I’m not sure the official website’s advice was much comfort to the families.
Remember when the ‘official’ advice earlier this year was masks didn’t offer protection to the general population in order to protect PPE supplies. Obviously protecting the mental health and reducing anxiety to pregnant women may be part of the reason behind minimising the risks.
If there is no additional risk why are pregnant HCP permitted to work away from the frontline at the moment?

TriflePudding · 21/11/2020 16:37

Have you not been advised for the household to self isolate for 14 days?

My DD tested positive and the other 3 of us negative and we were told to self isolate.

Frazzled2207 · 21/11/2020 16:43

I don't think you would be unreasonable at all to cancel the air bnb and move either DH or FIL there. Hopefully DH makes a quick recovery and the rest of you manage to avoid.
As you say, I'd be more worried about FIL than myself and the kids.

Abouttimemum · 21/11/2020 16:44

You all need to isolate and you’re all exposed already so surely he just stays where he is? If you want to limit contact just in case you all haven’t got it yet then attic.

GooseberryTart · 21/11/2020 16:47

@TriflePudding and others OP and her family are isolating 14 days but in addition to this she is just trying to sensibly minimise her chances of DH infecting his father any of the DC or OP (who is pregnant).

Brot64 · 21/11/2020 16:51

DH and I both have the NHS track and trace app nothing from there. He went for a meeting last week and I suspect that was the exposure because aside from that it's only been school drop off (where we are not allowed to leave the car) and his picking SS. Otherwise we've been WFH and any necessities have been off amazon or grocery deliveries. DC will of course not be going to school. We have been told to isolate by the clinic which we are.

Thanks all, the pregnancy information is very helpful in all of it I was more concerned for everyone else (particularly FIL and DH) rather than thinking of my pregnancy as it's been an easy one. DH will stay in the attic and we will leave the Airbnb booking as it is, as we wouldn't be near the property and haven't been for months. I have however informed the guest that we have a positive case though haven't been in the property so it's up to them, as to whether they proceed with the booking or not.

For those asking about rapid testing, we are with BUPA their tests take at least 48 hours but when urgent they are prepared to refer you under cover (with an additional payment) to any London clinic that does rapid testing)

OP posts:
DDiva · 21/11/2020 16:56

I can understand your concern about your and FIL exposure but I would probably all stay put.

Logistically it would be more difficult to sort provisions etc for someone elsewhere and i know I would be very worried about h or fil being on their own in these circumstances.

I would move h to the attic and go completely ott about sanitizing anything coming out of his room.

I do hope it all goes smoothly and back to normal in 2 weeks.

EwwSprouts · 21/11/2020 16:57

I would put DH in the attic. Sleeping side by side is 7 hours of close breathing, limited fresh air. For the sake of all of you get some windows open!
