Postal test - when will it turn up?

A close relative has just died of Covid, DP is positive. DS got symptoms but not well enough to walk to test. He’s been told the test will take “a few days” to turn up. Worried this means we will be in isolation for the funeral if the test takes a few days. Does anyone have experience of post test who can advise?

In my area they're delivered by Amazon. Dh's took 2 days, dc took one day but came after last posting so we couldn't do it until the following day. 72 hours for dh's results (September), less than 24 for dcs (posted just before 5, results at 3:50 the next day, mid October).

I had a home one for dd a couple of months ago and it was delivered to us by Amazon. I ordered on a Sunday, received Monday (after the priority postbox collection Time) , posted Tuesday and we had the results by the Thursday.

It will vary by area but I understand there are efforts to improve waiting times
Nationwide.

Ordered last Thursday evening. Arrived Saturday. Able to take and post the test Monday morning, results Tuesday afternoon.

Thank you. Are you allowed to leave the house to post it? Presumably you can?

Next day Amazon delivery here.

Ds's (done last week) arrived the next day in the morning and we got the results on the evening of the following day. You are allowed to leave the house to post it as long as you don't use public transport. You have to use a priority post box which for us was one outside a post office rather than the one up the street.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 21/11/2020 12:41

Yes, you can leave the house to post it, I think you're meant to wear a mask & stay away from everyone.

Our nearest 'priority' postbox is a 70 second round trip (I can see it from the end of the drive) so I just did it really quickly when there was no one in the road.

Ours turned up on a Sunday delivered by Amazon. You have to find your nearest priority post box (basically they assign certain ones to take the tests) and then you can walk to post it. Our nearest box was 5 mins away so there’s plenty dotted about.

Jist make sure you look for the priority post boxes.
