Caught Covid outside? :(

My husband has been working from home for months.
We don’t go to a supermarket we have food delivered and we always wipe it down.

Since lockdown began the only places we have been is for a walk.

I take my DS for a walk to our local park most days. (Only a baby so we don’t use the play area)

On Tuesday I met up with a friend and we went for a walk around a local lake.
It was quite busy but I never had close contact with anyone.
A few runners did run past quite close though.

Me and my friend distanced the whole time.

Before our walk we visited the cafe for a takeaway coffee. It’s all done outside so we didn’t have to go in.

I did drink from a disposable coffee cup but sanitised my hands when I’d finished, washed hands when I got home.

This morning I’ve got a sore throat and a tickly cough. 😖
I’ve ordered a test.

I bet its absurdly rare but also wouldn't be surprised to hear that some people must have caught it in this way - it's not impossible is it?

Joggers and bikers are usually panting hard when they go by, sometimes in groups, and its hard to always distance or avoid them (at least it is on streets near here).

I don't get why people are so getting angry at the notion.

This is the most misleading thread I've ever seen. Op has dug a hole and keeps on digging.

@ssd

Another one. It’s getting boring now reading about how misleading my title is (even though I’ve clearly asked a question)

Although they say risk is low outdoors doesn't mean you can't catch it outside.

OP has said she has been in parks. If not washing hands and say put your hand to your face after touching an infected surface say a park swing then it is possible. This hasn't been ruled out.

This is not a very nice thread really is it.

Hugosmugo · 23/11/2020 07:14

@Threelittlegins is it so hard to accept that your title is misleading?! It isn't like it is one or 2 people who have thought it. I've seen loads (including myself) who thought you caught it outside!

bruffin · 23/11/2020 07:15

Op just ask MN to change the title,
Yes it was a question, but still a misleading question . It insinuates you have already tested positive and you are querying if you got it outdoors

Wankerchief · 23/11/2020 07:24

Or you could all read properly?

Change the title, can grown ups not get a grip and move on, fucking hell. Petty, petty mumsnet

It might be differnt on different devices but on my phone the ? Is hard o notice becase there are some other characters after it. Possibly some kind of phone snafu but to me it really isn't clear.

Threelittlegins · 23/11/2020 08:05

Ok well if the title isn’t clear on your phone then at leas the write up was clear. 🙄

Back in August we went to a park. First time in months and all 3 dc developed high temp and cough/cold one after each other. It wasn’t covid but they were tested. I think parks are bad due to touch. We’ve avoided parks and instead dc use scooters in place of park trips.

Skipsurvey · 23/11/2020 08:26

did you use the loo op?

I expect it is your asthma

middleager · 23/11/2020 09:14

I have to agree this thread is rather dramatic. All this pontification when many have Covid and are in workplaces rife with it, but just get on with it.

My DS has Covid. No fuss, a high temp Friday evening test booked Sat morning. Result back last night.

Dottyandbet · 23/11/2020 09:52

@Threelittlegins when on a socially distanced walk with a friend it’s possible not to make people walk between you by instead walking two meters in front or behind each other on the same side of the path when you need to pass others. I hope you stay well I imagine you just have one of the usual winter bugs.

ScottishStottie · 23/11/2020 09:56

So have you done the test yet op?

I hope your test comes back negative @Threelittlegins.

I think the problem with the thread title is that, certainly on my iphone, the question mark doesn't show up so well.
If there was a space between it and the letter e from the word "outside" , it would be clearer.

Oxyiz · 23/11/2020 13:18

Crikey ssd, why so mean?

That was my post above, I have an andriod phone and the OP posted a chippy reply about my phone, clearly not just me then as apple phones are showing the same
SirVixofVixHall · 23/11/2020 14:05

I think runners are a risk if close to others OP, it is the big exhalations. Surely if singing hugely increases the risk of spread then running must too ?
Hopefully you have a sore throat rather than Covid, but I think breathing in a large exhalation of someone infected would be a risk, yes.

Delatron · 23/11/2020 14:08

Singing is a risk as you stand in one spot (normally inside) for a long time.

Running is far less risk as you are outside moving so that long contact time is not there.

loobyloo1234 · 23/11/2020 14:13

Thing is OP - you have had enough days to change your title. It would have been better even to add 'could I have caught covid outside' - even though you dont even know if you have it still ....

Just being disingenuous now

1WildTeaParty · 23/11/2020 14:26

Could you catch Covid 19 outside? YES.
Being near people puts you at some risk.

The virus is coughed/breathed into the air around an infected person.
(As we know, it will also be on their hands and it can be placed on surfaces of many kinds. We can disinfect surfaces and our hands... but there is nothing much we can do about droplets in the air.)

If you are indoors with an infected person - you are more likely to catch the virus from them.

If you are indoors in a well-ventilated space - you are a little less likely to catch the virus from an infected person but it is still perfectly possible.

If you are outdoors with an infected person - you are even less likely to catch it BUT it is still possible for you to breath in droplets and become infected.

eenymeenyminyme · 23/11/2020 14:29

All these people slating runners - does it not occur that when we're running past you we don't want to catch anything off you either? Why would we rum deliberately close when we're breathing heavily? Personally I change my route / run in the road / double back on myself to avoid people if I can.

Delatron · 23/11/2020 14:32

Yes I’m constant jumping in to the road/bushes to avoid people walking in a group blocking the whole path. Or couples that can’t bear not to hold hands along the path...
