Caught Covid outside? :(

Threelittlegins · 21/11/2020 10:14

My husband has been working from home for months.
We don’t go to a supermarket we have food delivered and we always wipe it down.

Since lockdown began the only places we have been is for a walk.

I take my DS for a walk to our local park most days. (Only a baby so we don’t use the play area)

On Tuesday I met up with a friend and we went for a walk around a local lake.
It was quite busy but I never had close contact with anyone.
A few runners did run past quite close though.

Me and my friend distanced the whole time.

Before our walk we visited the cafe for a takeaway coffee. It’s all done outside so we didn’t have to go in.

I did drink from a disposable coffee cup but sanitised my hands when I’d finished, washed hands when I got home.

This morning I’ve got a sore throat and a tickly cough. 😖
I’ve ordered a test.

If you're taking precautions against covid you're taking precautions against all viruses.

Yes, but some viruses transmit more easily and by different modes compared with covid.

unchienandalusia · 22/11/2020 10:01

Sorry my bad I don't mean all viruses (eg noro, HIV etc) but covid is respiratory as is cold?

PurpleDaisies · 22/11/2020 10:03

covid is respiratory as is cold?

Not all viruses are the same.

The common cold is caused by lots of different pathogens. It’s often caused by rhinoviruses, whereas covid is a coronavirus.

Italiangreyhound · 22/11/2020 10:03

Threelittlegins really hoping a is well.

islockdownoveryet · 22/11/2020 11:42

The fact that you've hardly left the house op won't be doing much for your immune system . I'm not surprised the first time you've gone out you've caught a cold .
Where those runners will be a lot fitter so able to fight off virus much better .
I'm not saying that just because they are fit they won't catch Covid in fact I think I had it in March . I'm just saying it's worth considering all those people locking themselves away it's not good for you in my opinion anyway .

theantsgomarchin · 22/11/2020 13:27

What a drama queen

I'm not sure that fitness is any defence but staying inside all the time can't be good for anyone.

I think it's vanishingly likely that you have covid, OP. If the stat quoted above that there have only been 2 documented cases of transmission in this way is true at least you can console your self with being a case for the medical studies

Whatever9999 · 22/11/2020 13:54

So yes; it’s either from the coffee cup (which I sanitised my hands after, and my friend also had a coffee and is fine)
Or it’s from the several runners who didn’t give a shit about keeping any form of distance.
There were a lot of walkers around and even though we didn’t spend time with any of them, people did walk past me again, without keeping sufficient distance.

sorry but as a runner, who goes out of her way to give walkers space, to the point where I put myself in danger by going in the road. I get the feeling you are one of those people that feels everyone should move for you instead of taking some responsibility.

I'm sick to death of walkers with their social distancing taking up the whole path, refusing to go single file, or stop in a drive to let anyone else pass. Guess what, as a runner those are things we do without thinking about it.

Yes runners should be showing consideration, but ffs so should you. If you see/hear someone coming up behind you, then go single file, or wait in a driveway for them to pass.

OP I was honestly on your side until you were so rude about the runners

I’m not trying to be rude about runners.

But as you will see from PP, I have been slated for distancing from my friend on a path that was wide enough for us to do so.

At no point did anyone ever have to ask us to move so they could pass. It was wide enough.
Yet runners still ran past me and who we’re definitely not 2m away.
And it’s not because my friend was at the other side of the path because other people were at the other side too.[/quote]
but you have been rude to runners and seriously, if you are taking up the whole path to be 2m apart then where is anyone else meant to go? or is the path 6m in width, to allow for 2m either side of your 2m. Be aware of your surroundings, and if someone is coming up behind you (clue our footsteps tend to be quicker if we're running) or towards you, go single file and give them space.

bringbackCabanas · 22/11/2020 14:07

You have almost certainly got a cold or another pretty typical winter illness. I
Hope you get your test results soon so you can put your mind at rest.

RedToothBrush · 22/11/2020 14:43

OMG YOU HAVE BUBONIC PLAGUE WITH A SIDE OF EBOLA.

Or you have a very minor winter ailment relating and are overly anxious about covid and are being ridicilously over dramatic about it

Threelittlegins · 22/11/2020 15:00

@RedToothBrush
@theantsgomarchin

Wont you both feel silly if my test is positive!

but you have been rude to runners

Hmm I’ve never been rude to runners.

I may have expressed my opinion on here but I’ve never verbally said anything to any runners on my walks.

Please see my posts. I leave the house plenty.
It’s only since this lockdown began (two weeks ago) that I’ve not been many places.

OP posts:
islockdownoveryet · 22/11/2020 15:35

My mistake I thought you said you'd hardly been any where .

theantsgomarchin · 22/11/2020 15:45

Why exactly would I feel silly??????? The drama you're making before you've even had a positive test is ridiculous. Regardless of whether it's positive or not, take the test and get on with it like any other normal person.

Switch your question around: will you feel silly if its negative?

I haven't made 56 posts on a thread of 367 posts about why I've definitely got covid even though I've only done the least risky things going and the evidence based medicine on this is just waiting for you to appear to become a case study.

I am not going to feel silly amongst all this drama making because a) don't think you will be positive b) I don't think you'd necessarily be believed if you said you were positive anyway.

You will be fine. And even if you have won the equivalent of the covid lottery, you will be fine.

@RedToothBrush

Okay I’ve never once said I’ve definitely got Covid.
What I said was that I have a sore throat and a tickly cough and I’d ordered a test.

My thread was asking a question of if I’ve caught Covid outside, not that I have caught Covid outside.

I know it might not be positive but if I have a cough, then I should order a test. Which is what I’ve done.

My mum was positive 8 weeks ago, caught at work.
Her symptoms started as a bad headache and feeling sick. She tested on day 3 and only because 4 other people at her work were positive.
Even at this stage she didn’t have any of the 3 “main” symptoms.

I don’t think I’m being dramatic to order a test when I have a cough and sore throat given that so many people seem to have such a variation in the symptoms they develop.

I agree being outside is low risk. But it’s not risk free.
I’ve obviously picked something up and being outside is the only busy (and by busy I mean more than the one or two people I pass at my local park) place I’ve been over the last few weeks!

OP posts:
satnighttakeaway · 22/11/2020 17:02

I don't think anyone has said you're being dramatic to order a test but you are being dramatic to assume that the result will be positive when you have no valid reason to come to that conclusion.

Hugosmugo · 22/11/2020 17:24

Wow what a dramatic thread.
First of all, the title is misleading and DOES make it seem that you've caught covid outside.
Secondly, you made it seem like you haven't been indoors anywhere since the first lockdown which is not true. I was getting worried, and do get worried for people who aren't going places, it isnt healthy. Im glad to see that you just mean since this lockdown.
I get swollen glands when I'm run down and it is often one side of my face. It could be that

MushMonster · 22/11/2020 17:33

OP did your test arrive?
Is your sore throat and cough any better?
I bet you a MN star that it will be negative!

Posturesorposes · 22/11/2020 17:42

I think it could very very likely that a positive test screenshot will be posted. Imagine the impact of that if it could be established - at such an uncertain time for everyone, when anxieties and fatigue are sky high - if it could somehow be established that going for outdoor nature rambles can give one covid.

I think we’ve established by the hundreds of responses to this thread that it’s not impossible to catch Covid outdoors.

I will post the result of my test, positive or negative.

How would I even screen shot a negative result to say positive 🤷🏻‍♀️
