Negative test and isolation

So someone at DHs work tested positive last Wednesday, those in close contact were told bu HO to self isolate. On Monday a member of staff said they had taken a test (no symptoms) and it was negative. They have been told its therefore ok to return to work! I'm right in thinking that this is not ok? That there is incubation period and that 14 days standard regardless? The person in question came into contact with a positive case.... worried as have 90 year old DGM in hospital.

The person in question had been in contact with the positive case on Monday last week but back in work Monday this week as took a test.... I'm tired of those who think a negative rans just that !

You’re right, a negative test only ends isolation if you’re isolating because you had symptoms. Not if you’re isolating because you’re a contact of a confirmed positive.

You are right. My son had a similar situation at his work. One person had symptoms so booked a test and informed his work. All workers were sent home to wait test results. He tested positive so they all started 14 days isolation. The firm sent out private tests, where it found 6 out of 30 staff tested positive. The firm said that those who tested negative and if they hadn’t been contacted by track and trace, they could go back to work, but on phoning 119 they were told to still isolate for the full 14 days. Only the first one person had symptoms, the other 5 didn’t.
