My sister in law tested positive for COVID yesterday but lives alone. She has only been to the supermarket and out for walks alone in the past few weeks. Trying to work out how on earth str could have caught it! We did see her about ten days ago but we are a family of five and none of us have had any symptoms. We have also been in school/seen other family members who are older and none of them have symptoms. I would have thought if it was us, someone somewhere would have had symptoms from our wider circle. How on earth could she have caught it at a supermarket or on a walk?

So she hasn’t been anywhere except an indoor public place and seen family with school age children within the last 14 days.

You’re right OP it’s a mystery.
This. 😂

You do know that one of the features of the virus is that it is frequently asymptomatic?

Argh the old how can I have caught covid I haven't been anywhere .
Obviously no one is suggesting you are out partying but most people go to the shop or work or see someone.
Honestly I've heard this a few times the last few months but they are going to work / supermarket etc but yet they are scratching their head quite puzzled how they've caught it . Hmm

Has she worn a mask every time she visited the supermarket and in the shared hallways?

LaurieFairyCake · 20/11/2020 16:47

I think the reason people are 'puzzled' is because the bloody media are making out that if you're sensible you can't catch it Confused

And it's a virus 🦠 so you can

Masks don’t stop from getting the corona virus. It reduces the chances you will pass it to others.

Sadly I think you are correct. My Facebook is full of people who think exactly that.

AAaaagh. This whole "It was on the news that supermarkets are where most people are catching it" thing is driving me NUTS.

The survey did NOT say that people are catching it in the supermarket. They asked people where they had been in the seven days before they tested positive, and 18% of them had been to the supermarket.

If they asked the same number of people without Covid, where they'd been in the last seven days, I bet they'd get the same result. It's one of the few places anyone can go, FFS.

NO-ONE knows where they picked up the virus (unless they have someone living with them who got it first). So there's no way the statisticians could know they got it at the supermarket.

I dare say that 18% of people with Covid ate a chocolate digestive in the seven days before they got Covid.
STOP THE PRESS!!! CHOCOLATE DIGESTIVES GIVE YOU COVID!!!

Retiremental · 20/11/2020 23:37

I’ll bet 100% of them had a poop in the seven days before a positive test. Pooping definitely causes covid.

Supermarkets are one of the most common places to get it at the moment along with schools . I'm not sure what the mystery is ?

Can somebody cancel the cheque?

Remmy123 · 21/11/2020 11:40

When you say she hasn't been anywhere .. she has because she has been to the super market? Clearly from there
