Sore throat at start?

Emmie12345 · 19/11/2020 21:36

Hi, my ds, 16, has a case in his school year but not his bubble

The girl who has tested positive is in his geography class tho , he’s not a close contact of her so hasn’t been told to isolate

Anyway , he and now I both have really sore throats . Anyone have this at start of the cv?

Thanks!

Yes, headache and throat was first for me. A dull ache but definitely made me think I was heading for the poorly blanket!

ScottishDream · 19/11/2020 21:50

Yes, sore throat. But lower than normal in the throat, a bit like I’d been yelling too much. Plus aches and pains, across the shoulder blades, and an awful sinusy headache.

Emmie12345 · 19/11/2020 21:56

Yes feels low in throat , base off neck at front

My OH has it. I started with symptoms a few days ago, loss of taste, wouldn't say a fever as such but I've woken up the past few nights absolutely drenched with sweat but freezing cold. Had a sore throat, fatigued and aching everywhere. My Covid test came back negative

Emmie12345 · 19/11/2020 22:07

Wow will you test again ??

MIL first symptoms were sore throat and headache.. tested positive.

Emmie12345 · 19/11/2020 22:36

Did she test with those symptoms alone ?

Dunno I'm meant to be self isolating until the 25th but apparently because I'm a Carer I can still work as I wear PPE. I'm on holiday next week anyway and thinking of just taking the weekend off. I'll just say I still don't feel right. I'm wondering if not swabbing my throat long enough would give a false result. I couldn't keep it on my tonsil for more than about 3 seconds and i was sick so some of it went on the swab. I also wasn't able to swab both sides of my throat because each time I put the swab anywhere near my mouth I heaved and boaked. I did do it up both nostrils but even then I don't think it was long enough

covetingthepreciousthings · 19/11/2020 22:47

Did she test with those symptoms alone ?

Someone in her bubble had a temp & cough, so they tested together and both positive.

I know you shouldn't test on sore throat and headache alone.. but having tested it now means her work colleagues have been notified as well as a few other people so they could all isolate and as a result another 3 people have tested due to symptoms during their isolation. So it was worth while.

CornishTiger · 19/11/2020 22:49

Yes this is how mine started in May.

My test was no result ( they lost it basically as it was chased and chased and suddenly a text)

Emmie12345 · 19/11/2020 22:56

I thought had had it in March with bad head and loss of smell - hmmmm maybe another round !

Headache, sore throat and metallic taste in my mouth were my earliest symptoms. I started isolating and got a test - positive.

Emmie12345 · 20/11/2020 07:24

@halloween88 I just did the test pre-questions and sore throat isn’t a symptom to get test with , wonder iff I should tho?

OP posts:
halloween88 · 20/11/2020 07:35

@Emmie12345 I know it is difficult. We already had a positive case in our house already though and I classed the metallic taste in my mouth as the 'loss of taste and smell' and ticked that box.

halloween88 · 20/11/2020 07:36

I personally think the 'top 3' symptoms they list on the NHS website is a bit outdated anyway right now...

Emmie12345 · 20/11/2020 07:42

Mmmm I see your point @halloween88 )

My friend ended up calling them as she felt poorly but didn't have one of the top 3 symptoms and they let her book a test over the phone.

DonLewis · 20/11/2020 07:50

I had a sore throat, deep down for a couple of days at the start of the week, along with a banging headache. Didn't test, as not the symptoms.

All gone now. So clearly wasn't it. Maybe see how you go for another couple of days?

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 20/11/2020 07:54

Yep, headache and sore throat were the first signs for me. Fingers crossed that it's just a big-standard cold, OP.

Emmie12345 · 20/11/2020 08:01

Think it is as feel a bit better today

Ds has sore throats still no temp tho so am just gonna keep him home today

Public health told the head teacher at a local school who have over 400 pupils isolating that many teens only symptom despite testing positive is a sore throat. So I’d lie and say your son does have a temp to get a test. End justifies the means IMO.

Emmie12345 · 20/11/2020 08:47

Hmmmmm interesting

Will book us test I think

I had aches and pains and headache a week before i tested because they’re not classic symptoms. I tested on Tuesday because I got a cough and it was positive. In the meantime I was out and dropping dd off to school on Monday. The symptoms check needs to change otherwise people are unknowingly passing the virus because their symptoms don’t match the government criteria.

CC1991 · 20/11/2020 20:24

In March I had a headache and sore throat as the first symptoms of whatever virus I had (I suspect it was covid)! Headache started on the Friday afternoon, sore throat (and a brief episode of coughing) started just before I went to bed, then I woke up at 4am on the Saturday feeling really crap with shivers and aches etc.

PrivateD00r · 20/11/2020 20:44

Yes I had a sore throat and actually had spots on the tonsils. My dc all had sore throats too. I had all the text book symptoms too, dc didn't.
