Pantomime

We have an outside theatre company coming in to perform a pantomime in Dec in our local hall with strict covid guidelines. My ds desperately wants to go as all his friends are! cant help think it would be risky to go even with tight restrictions. Am I being over cautious?

How did you manage to get BoJo to visit your local hall??

In all seriousness I would go. I'm assuming they would have restrictions in place and social distancing of seats.

Surely no different to cinema?

Should clarify I mean an theatre company are coming in to perform inside the hall(not in the outside)

It is a bit because there will be a whole different mix of people there, not just school friends etc..

This was my first thought too...its still an enclosed space.

I’ve been to the theatre twice during the time they were allowed to re-open. Its one of the safest places I’ve felt. However both the London Palladium & Southwark Playhouse had thought of everything. I would want to know exactly what measures a small company using a non standard venue had in place.

In my belief there is no such thing as a “Covid Secure Venue”. It’s not a magical virus that knows not to enter certain buildings.

I’m Shielded so obviously I wouldn’t go and I would refuse to see anyone who had been.

It’s one of the higher risk activities. It’s indoors, presumably a large number of people, audience participation, a couple of hours all breathing in the same air even with masks (IF they are enforced, especially with kids!), ventilation might not be great. It could ruin Christmas for your family, if you’ve anyone vulnerable then God forbid what could happen.

It’s best to say no in my opinion. Just not worth it at all. I think there will be loads of Easter pantos next year!

That’s the school’s decision. But it’s far easier for a presumably small, professional theatre company to rehearse and perform in a safe way than it would be for teachers to try and get a larger class of kids to do the same.

We had tickets booked (pre Covid) for the pantomime at quite a big theatre. I assumed they would cancel but apparently they intend to go ahead with 1m+ social distancing. It would be groups sat 1m apart and adults to wear masks.

We've moved our booking to next year. It's a pantomime. Well over half the audience will be non mask wearing kids shouting their heads off. I'm sure they'll also be some adults without masks because of health reasons.

It really doesn't seem at all safe to me and we were going with my elderly mum as well as the kids and I don't want her exposed to that level of risk. I'm relieved we have been able to move to 2021 instead.

Thanks everyone. I'm getting the mum guilt at the moment as of course all their other friends are going(not sure if that's strictly true) I do have to be very careful as I work with vulnerable people as well.

My dc school is very very small but I expect schools follow government guidelines for things like that. For example I know kids aren't allowed to sing at school.

They sing at my husband’s school, my daughter’s college & my son’s college and as far as I am aware at the school Ds used to go to (from speaking to those who are still there. )

My husband is a music and singing teacher so we have scrutinised all the schools & colleges guidance at length.

Absolutely no way.........
