To ignore track and trace?

I was at a staff meeting last week. We are all wfh - this is only the second time since March we have met in person, for a necessary reason. All the precautions were carried out - we met in a massive room, with masks on, chairs spaced 2m apart, plenty of sanitising etc. 2 days later someone at the meeting gets symptoms. They spoke to T&T and told them about staff meeting (along with other movements the week leading up to their symptoms), and were told that because all safety precautions were taken, no one at meeting has to isolate.
Now however everyone is getting T&T texts telling them to isolate for 14 days, presumably because the phone’s proximity Bluetooth thing has kicked in.
So, who do we follow? What the T&T team said to the infected person over the phone, or what our texts are saying through the app?

YANBU to ignore "Track and trace" which is shite and disregarded in large organisations such as schools so I'm not entirely sure what its purpose is. Minimal chance anyone passed it on in the situation you described.

RayOfSunshine2013 · 14/11/2020 18:05

I’m going to get attacked for this but YANBU.

Not that this has happened to me (Hmm) but I’d ignore and block the number.

CovidAnni · 14/11/2020 18:06

How long was the meeting?

Comefromaway · 14/11/2020 18:07

@dementedpixie

Normal face masks dont make you not have to isolate. And if the Bluetooth has said you were close enough to each other for long enough then you should isolate. It doesn't have to be 15 minutes all at once, it is cumulative
If the phone is placed on a table or in a handbag then the opine may be less than 2m from another phone but as long as you, the person are further than 2m from the other person you don’t have to isolate.
UniversalHadIt · 14/11/2020 18:07

I’d probably isolate in this situation, regardless of the advice.

It doesn’t seem to me that logic or critical thinking is being applied at all by govt; even my laypersons (GCSE level) understanding of infection and virology, coupled with a couple of isolated cases I know where people tested positive after contact of less than 15 mins and over 2m, suggests that these “standards” are probably not failsafe.

I’d worry about transmitting more than I would personally becoming ill.

But everyone’s circs are different- I can wfh. I can - with difficulty- wfh with my child (thank god for Netflix). I can afford delivery shops.

Personally I believe that the morals and ethics of Covid and isolation etc, can’t absolute with such vast health, wealth and social inequality between individuals.

LyingDogsLie1 · 14/11/2020 18:08

@Coldandcross

Yes, that’s right, sorry that was misleading. It definitely says the date of meeting as being the day in contact with infectious person, so 14 days from that date (so 11 remaining)
I was in the same situation. All precautions taken and still told to isolate. It’s a legal requirement to isolate when asked and as far as I can tell there are no grounds for appeal. Absolutely terrifying how quickly you can be stripes of your civil rights.
WanderingMilly · 14/11/2020 18:12

This is exactly the reason why I don't do the bloody track and trace....

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 14/11/2020 18:13

@Bringonspring

App is a pile of rubbish, equally if you have it then you have to follow it
This is why I don't and won't have the app.

I would contact T&T, speak to someone and follow their instructions

LyingDogsLie1 · 14/11/2020 18:19

I don’t have the app for this reason. But T&T were passed my name. I’m confident the colleague reporting was trying to be thorough and honest and explained the situation but they just took it at face value and told me to SI.

Scbchl · 14/11/2020 18:21

My friend was contacted by track and trace and told to isolate despite all necessary ppe and 2m social distancing. On the second day they got back in touch to say they were incorrect and it wasnt necessary. I'd go with the humans and not the app that doesnt know the details.

CookieClub · 14/11/2020 18:32

@LindaEllen

It's illegal not to isolate if you've been told to. Whether it's really necessary from a medical point of view is another matter entirely.
But T&T is optional, so if anyone in the meeting hasn't downloaded the app, they wont be isolating?
Christmasfairy2020 · 14/11/2020 18:32

How many days isit that some one has to isolate. I was working closely with a doctor 19 days ago. I found out he has been of work 14 days due to covid so we was in contact 5 days before but I wasnt told to isolate

What did you do?

I havent been anywhere that you have to leave details for T&T. People tell me I’m being paranoid but it’s not worth a fortnight in a tiny flat, trying to sort care for mum, just to get food or drink outside.

They would contact those that were in contact with the person in the 48 hours before symptoms started
WaxOnFeckOff · 14/11/2020 18:51

Delete the App and follow your own good sense.

LyingDogsLie1 · 14/11/2020 19:30

It was a colleague at work that gave T&T my contact details. She explained we hadn’t had any face to face contact, not 15 mins contact and maintained a 2m distance.

I’ve had to self isolate. A week later though, so I got a week for free - which completely undermines the whole thing.

B1rthis · 14/11/2020 19:38

Track and trace seems floored.
Masks are pointless if they're put on with hands that have been coughed on.
Hand gel works for the first three times and then you need to use hot water and soap.
The longer you're in a room with an infected the more chance you have of breathing in their germs and touching things they did.
If the air-con was on and the windows were closed, none of the above matters anywho.

JinglingHellsBells · 14/11/2020 19:50

How depressing that people refuse to register with T&T! One reason it's not working is because people are not responding when they are contacted. We will be in lockdown forever at this rate.

masks and gel are not 100% effective.

Have you not been reading the stats on how minimal their effects are?

B1rthis · 14/11/2020 19:51

@lyingDogsLie1 they can do this?! They can actually pass on your personal contact details to track and trace despite you choosing not to download the app and that's not a GDPR or something similar break?
Yes absolutely terrifying!!

AcornAutumn · 14/11/2020 19:53

So they called you, knowing all this, and still told you to isolate?

This is why I don’t have faith in the human version either!

Matt Hancock said he wasn’t bothered about throwing GDPR out of the window. It’s criminal, I agree.

dementedpixie · 14/11/2020 19:54

Test and trace is a separate entity from the app. T&T will ask for contact details of those you were in contact with in the 48 hours before symptoms started. How else can they try to stop the spread of the virus?

RubbishQueen · 14/11/2020 20:05

A colleague of mine was in a meeting last week on Monday. Followed all procedures, masks, social distancing ect ect. Last Tuesday his boss was swabbed for Covid after developing symptoms. Colleague was told that as per the guideline he doesn't have to isolate as they followed all the procedures. Boss tested positive. Colleague has since tested postivite for Covid. There is a chance that he picked it up else were I guess. 🤷‍♀️

Ssmiler · 14/11/2020 20:11

Friend attended a meeting with ten colleagues. Two metres distancing, all wore masks, room was ventilated. One colleague turned out to be positive and seven out of the other ten then tested positive. Masks are not a guarantee so if you all wfh and can stay home for now, it’s the right thing to do - regardless of human or app advice....

LyingDogsLie1 · 14/11/2020 20:32

Yes - well I actually got a text requesting me to fill in some details online. The call followed more than 48 hours later.

I’m a bit annoyed about the whole thing. Totally unnecessary. There was 10ft and a bank of metal filing cabinets between us all bloody day.
