Covid Positive. Can my DS isolate with us?

He comes home every weekend and works away during the week. He was home this weekend, Friday to Sunday. I started to feel unwell on Sunday with an upset stomach. By Monday I decided to book myself and husband a covid test as we both developed symptoms. Both got positive results on Tuesday. My daughter felt unwell and also tested positive yesterday. My son has all the same symptoms from late tuesday but has tested negative in his weekly work test. He has gone to a drive test site to have another test as we are certain he has it. Question is if he tests pos can he drive home to isolate with us. He won't be in contact with anyone else in his own car and will stay in the house with us? What does the law say. I cant make head nor tail of it!

If you are all isolating anyway then you may as well all isolate together

If he was with you within 48hrs of when your symptoms started he has to isolate for 14 days whether he tests positive or not.

I think OP wants to know if he can isolate with them rather than at the place he normally goes during the week regardless of the test result.

But yes, he should be isolating anyway if he was in contact with you in the 48 hours before you all tested positive

Sorry in the 48 hours before you got symptoms not the test result

Why did he go to work though if he was with you when you got symptoms?

McSwinks · 13/11/2020 17:21

He wasn't with me when I got symptoms. He went back to work on Sunday. I had an upset stomach on sunday and by Monday late morning I got very hot and a slight cough so I booked a drive through test on Monday afternoon. He isolated as soon as we got our positive results.

He was with you in the 48 hours before you got symptoms so should still be isolating. He should have been isolating while you waited for test results

If he isolated when you got the positive why didn’t he isolate with you then? He’s not supposed to leave the house when isolating. What if he broke down on the way home? He needs to stay where he is.

And yes you should have told him when you got symptoms and he should have been isolating since then.
