So...does Borris really have a plan in the pipeline so families can be together for Christmas?

Hi,

With rumours swirling, does anyone think there is actually a "together for Christmas" plan?

Before anyone shoots me down, I'm not saying I believe there should be one necessarily. There are certainly more important plans needing to be put together right now.

Don't get me wrong, I would absolutely love to be with family for Christmas, but I just can't see how.

Thoughts?

@Splodgetastic

People should stick to the restrictions if they want jobs. Anyone who has a conviction for breaking them will be blacklisted once this is over.
You may get a fine but you won’t get a criminal record for having granny and auntie flow over for Christmas dinner

Ok, I’ll try and keep my face straight and ask, what on earth do you mean by “blacklisted”?
Splodgetastic · 18/11/2020 12:35

If someone went to an employer with a criminal record and it was found out it was for this, I doubt an employer is going to give them the time of day.

TheKeatingFive · 18/11/2020 12:52

No one will be getting a criminal record for having their Christmas dinner with family members.

Honestly, between this and the ‘send in the army’ poster, I’m getting worried about people’s sanity.

Lelophants · 18/11/2020 13:04

Tbh I can deal wrih what it is. What I hate (and I'm sure a lot of people hate) is the not knowing. It would be nice to plan something, whatever it is!

Stellaris22 · 18/11/2020 13:12

But we know nothing is going to change any time soon and big gatherings won't be encouraged. Just plan to stay in your household bubble for Christmas (where possible).

We surely don't need guidance and rules from the government to know already that household mixing is dangerous.

The rich had their ski trips They had their Cheltenham (whats the betting there is a lockdown to save Cheltenham 2021) They had their holidays in the summer. As someone who rents, who has done these lockdowns in a tiny flat who hasnt been abroad since the 80s, does not go to pubs or restaurants I want my family Christmas.
In this months Good Housekeeping it states that the Samaritans usually get 400,000 calls throughout December, 11,000 on Christmas Day alone. IMO there is a good chance it could be worse this year if the Government put restrictions in place. Also i would bet a penny to a pinch of shit that MPs and advisors will want to see their families regardless but wont want another Barnard Castle type scandal. Because lets face it the papers and journos will be watching them like hawks to see if they do practice what they preach. And after watching Dispatches Lockdown Chaos and the PPE and testing scandals im tired of being made a mug of while they cash in. For some people this could well be their last Christmas. Covid is not the only killer And dont forget the MPs took their summer recess rather than work through it to get this sorted. So Covid not serious enough to cancel their summer recess but serious enough to stop ppl seeing their families at Christmas?

Crumpety · 19/11/2020 23:57

I would love to see my family but my relatives are 75+ so I don’t think I could risk exposing them to the virus. I don’t understand how other people don’t seem to worry about this? I know some families are in a different situation with a family member who may not live to see another Christmas, so it’s different for them, but for the rest of us, I think we should wait for the vaccine.

Chaotic45 · 20/11/2020 19:48

@MercyBooth did they?

We cancelled skiing, cancelled our summer holiday. Our family have also postponed a wedding, had to have a tiny funeral, and celebrated our birthdays without each other.

I'm not sure why you'd make that odd statement. I can sure you that all sorts of people have missed out on a great deal, and that will include Christmas this year.

MercyBooth · 20/11/2020 20:46

@Chaotic45 There were threads on here very early on with posters insisting they had to go or lose their deposits and other posters agreeing with them.

MercyBooth · 20/11/2020 20:49

It was the skiing set that brought it to Chelsea and Westminster.

A journalist did ask Hancock at the briefing what his plans were for Christmas

A subtle way of letting them know they will be being watched over the festive period as i predicted.

Remmy123 · 20/11/2020 21:22

I do not want 4/5 days of families mixing abd then a full lockdown to follow in January- no thanks!!

I'd be happy for a chilled Christmas fo be honest

Changechangychange · 20/11/2020 22:43

@Splodgetastic

If someone went to an employer with a criminal record and it was found out it was for this, I doubt an employer is going to give them the time of day.
People are getting fixed penalty notices, like parking tickets, not criminal records.

An employer isn’t going to know, and if they did find out, I doubt they are going to care that the best candidate for their highly-skilled hard to fill position once met their mum during lockdown. And I say that as somebody who has stuck to every restriction to the letter.

ForBlueSkies · 20/11/2020 22:53

Another reckless decision by our reckless government.

December 25th is just a day. Why not have a Christmas party in April, when families can gather relatively safely, all having been vaccinated?

MercyBooth · 20/11/2020 23:16

Mumsnet Coronavirus board on face mask guidance pre June.
It doesnt matter what the Government guidance is. Everyone should be wearing them.

Mumsnet Coronavirus board on Government travel guidance re holidays/ski trips in Feb/March.

Government says you are good to go so its ok and as you said you dont want to lose your deposit.

TheRubyRedshoes · 20/11/2020 23:24

Mercy booth, this is just a chat forum, we can all assess our own risk. I hope you see your family this Xmas.

If I had gp left and we hadn't seen them and they wanted to see us and we them, I would be doing everything to make sure we could ie staying away as much as we can..

MercyBooth · 20/11/2020 23:40

Ta @TheRubyRedshoes I limit my contacts as much as i can. Supermarket Boots and Superdrug And hairdressers (ive only been to hairdressers twice since first lockdown. Im due to go again in Dec if this lockdown is lifted but my hairdresser is scrupulously clean Always has been. i mask up and keep my distance when out. DH is an unsociable git anyway so hardly sees anyone.
