Home testing- what’s the point?

I ordered a NHS home covid test yesterday November 11th at 3pm. The delivery estimate on my tracking information is November 14th at 8pm.
The information adds that once the test has been performed and posted back in a priority NHS postbox results should be received 2-4 days later.
What is the point?
The tests are delivered by Amazon- the government obviously isn’t a Prime subscriber!

By the time a result is received, most of the 10 day isolation period will already have elapsed.

Is everyone else receiving their home tests more quickly - am I just unlucky?

I ordered mine very late on Monday evening - it arrived via Amazon around midday on Wednesday. I managed to do the test and get it in the priority post box 1 hr before last collection last night, so hopefully I'll have a result on Saturday some time. Symptoms started on Sunday, so I'll have done at least 6 of my 10 days by then?

Maybe that's optimistic, maybe I won't get a result until Sunday. But at least I'll know for sure.

I've had 5. If I order before 3pm I get the test the next day, otherwise it's the day after. It is annoying when it arrives too late to get it in the postbox the same day though, especially if that happens to be on a Friday because I couldn't then return it till the following Monday (test rules). Results are usually 60 hours after putting my test in the priority box so on that occasion I'd ordered on the Thursday, got it late Friday, posted on the Monday, got the results on the Friday so had almost served my time anyway! All my other experiences have been much smoother though.

First one - ordered Saturday afternoon, arrived Sunday evening, posted Monday morning, result Wednesday lunchtime
Second one (a week later) - ordered Saturday evening, arrived Monday evening, posted Tuesday morning, result first thing today

What’s the alternative if people can’t/won’t go to a test centre? There are only so many couriers, lab processors etc and they’re quite busy at the moment! It at least helps those a person lives with who might be doing a 14 day isolation as a household member of a symptomatic person.

Order ours early Wednesday morning arrived today. Managed to get it in post before last collection.
Fingers crossed for result before Monday morning.

Ordered mine Weds eve, came Friday lunch. Got it posted before last collection thelat day and had the results Saturday evening

I ordered one last Sunday afternoon, it’s only just arrived this afternoon!
Luckily on Monday morning I managed to then get an appointment as a test centre very nearby that hadn’t been showing on the Sunday afternoon, and I tested positive.
