Is the virus rising rapidly in anyone else’s area?

According to the Zoe app the rate is increasing in my area and not dropping or stabilising like other places in England.

Falling here, East of England. Down by 430 from 1144 last week to 714 this week.

corythatwas · 11/11/2020 09:09

What I seem to be seeing here is cases moving from the university (which was hit by the last wave) to the community. Affecting lots of people in low-paid service jobs.

Henrietty · 11/11/2020 09:11

Yes it’s rapidly rising in my area and we have always had fairly high figures anyway. We were put into tier 3 before lockdown.

Dc class was sent home early yesterday and they are now isolating for 14 day as their teacher has tested positive. I read in the paper yesterday that our town has issued the highest amount of COVID fines in the county. Almost 900 fines have been issued, mostly to people not wearing their masks, meeting in large groups and for breaking the no mixing of household rules. Given that I live in an area where 74% of the population are BAME, you’d think people would be more careful.

grenadines · 11/11/2020 09:18

I suspect school outbreaks are causing sudden rises in particular areas. Possibly also some university cases in southern cities that didn’t have large outbreaks in September.

SlayDuggee · 11/11/2020 09:19

Exeter is going up so lots of people must be reporting symptoms. I’m a bit confused as we are getting about 30 positives a day so there must be lots of people reporting symptoms which may or may not result in a positive

Very rapidly rising here in NE England, ZOE app says 6116 active cases. I tested positive a couple days ago.

alreadytaken · 11/11/2020 09:49

Zoe ap is not reliable for small areas. I check the government website, although it's quite out of date.

With schools going back I just assume the rate will rise in any area where people are not complying with restrictions. Since the rate in my area has gone up I'm taking extra care to avoid people.

LadyCatStark · 11/11/2020 09:58

Cases have almost halved in my area of the North West. Funny how now that cases are rising in other areas of the country, no one’s posting all over MN claiming that cases are rising due to peasants who are too stupid to wear masks... 🤨

Ours has gone up by 60% in the last week and just under your rate.

MarmiteCrumpet25 · 11/11/2020 10:13

This is Bristol - rather worrying here still. I’m currently self isolating due to contact with a positive case at work last week.

As @alreadytaken has said, while the Zoe app is probably reasonably accurate at regional and national levels, the smaller amount of data for local levels means there is much less confidence in those numbers.

You can check actual case numbers by local authority here:

BlueBlancmange · 11/11/2020 12:58

Yes they shot up about tenfold about a month ago.

Egghead68 · 12/11/2020 13:44

Up again here today. I don’t think people can be obeying the lockdown rules.

Frazzled2207 · 12/11/2020 13:48

Remember Zoe app, although I’m a fan, is (fancy) guesswork.
Government figs for actual confirmed cases in all local authorities, regions, nations etc are all here coronavirus.data.gov.uk/

KinderWild · 12/11/2020 13:59

I'm in SE London. We saw a tiny increase last week, I guess that tracks to infections in the week before lockdown 2.0. Our rate has never gone above 120/100k. We were put in tier 2 with the rest of london before lockdown when our rate was 70/100k. Our rate went up after going into tier 2.

KinderWild · 12/11/2020 14:00

Should have said that's the gov figures. Covid Zoe app shows quite a big (30pc) decrease for our area in the last week.

Ilovewalks · 12/11/2020 14:00

Finally gone down a little. Still very, very high but down so hopefully it will continue to decrease.

JustBidenMyTime · 12/11/2020 14:11

Where I am the rate of increase in the number of new cases is going down, but the number of hospital admissions is doubling every few days. It is just like March with hundreds of Covid-19 cases. And this area is not a hotspot.
The lockdown should have been started a week early before half-term, but the government put it off due to wanting families to spend as much money as possible over half-term. Now the extra travel and mixing involved means there are more cases in schools 10 days after the end of half-term.

KinderWild · 12/11/2020 14:18

@JustBidenMyTime where did you find the info on hospital cases for your area?

JustBidenMyTime · 12/11/2020 14:20

Reported in local newspaper - but I expect there are specific routes for wider data access in other areas.

MrsJonesAndMe · 12/11/2020 16:13

We've gone from about 50/100 000 per week before September to 150/100 000, still 70/100 000 less than our neighbouring borough, but the two are very interlinked, so guessing the only way is up Hmm

Anda001 · 12/11/2020 16:38

Ours did drop for about a week or so bit it is now rising again.

But saying that Swale is claimed to be the highest in Kent now so I imagine we will be in Tier 3/4 when lockdown finishes.

Torvean32 · 12/11/2020 18:48

I wouldn't trust the Zoe apps analysis.

ginberry4 · 12/11/2020 20:23

Interestingly my area is showing a large drop in cases in the last few weeks on the Zoe app, yet in reality actual cases are still on the rise, our hospitals are filling up & we are currently one of the worst affected regions in the country. Confused. I’m not sure I’d place too much reliance on the app based on that.

FuzzyPuffling · 12/11/2020 20:34

Cornwall -Ours are going up quite substantially, after a bizarre drop a couple of days ago.
