What’s a continuous cough? (Sorry)

I’m sorry, I know this has been done. I hate to be that person.
But what is a continuous cough. My daughter has developed a cough today. Not coughing fits. Just a couple of little coughs every so often throughout the day. I hadn’t heard her, but she’s telling me she’s had it all day.

If others are noticing ur cough

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 09/11/2020 15:10
@WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants That’s what it is. ‘Cough-cough’ every so often.
Temp is fine and otherwise fine but obviously we don’t cough for no reason so covid or not there’s probably something brewing.
How is she today?

The sooner we get cheek/finger prick testing with fast results, the better

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 09/11/2020 15:25

Cough-cough very so often should be tested unless there’s a known cause for it that is non-viral/illness related.

The fact that you’be described it as having developed a cough and said she’s coughed several times in the couple of hours would suggest she needs a test. Might be covid, might be something else.

Nochangeplease · 09/11/2020 15:45

I woke her up early this morning so we had plenty of time to observe. She hadn’t coughed once by the time we were ready so went to school and work as normal.

That's how I started cough cough, then nothing for hours, then cough cough again throughout the day. It was covid.

Nochangeplease · 09/11/2020 17:06

She’s been home a while. Haven’t heard her cough once. So relieved.

Glad she seems OK OP. I'm reading with interest because I'm feeling unwell - headache, joint aches, skin soreness, and a "claggy" sensation in my throat which occasionally tickles and has made me do a "cough-cough clear" about 4 times in the last 5 hours. Started early hours of Saturday morning, been feeling quite rough.

I asked DH to pick up a thermometer tonight as the deciding factor in whether to get tested - temp is normal (37.2), so I'm thinking it's a cold?

I don't need to go anywhere (WFH) but DH does...

Nochangeplease · 09/11/2020 17:27

To be completely honest. If it wasn’t for work I probably would have got her tested just out of interest in case she was asymptotic/mild. But seeing as she doesn’t have any other symptoms or a ‘continuous cough’ I just can not afford to lose several days money.

We’ve all been positive. The adults had bad coughs and were quite croaky but the cough was not an early symptom. One child had nothing. The other child coughed 3 times over the space of a few days.

Blutopia · 09/11/2020 20:56

Hmm. I've been coughing a bit more frequently this evening (it's still just a tickle), and I feel quite dizzy and spaced out. I could convince myself that I felt short of breath after coming up the stairs, but that might be paranoia.

I still have no fever and my sense of taste and smell are normal. I don't actually have anything in the symptom list to warrant a test, the cough is hardly noticeable. But still...

incognitomum · 10/11/2020 08:33

@Blutopia I haven't had s fever and tested positive.

incognitomum · 10/11/2020 08:34

a fever*

incognitomum · 10/11/2020 08:34

And you have a new cough.

Blutopia · 10/11/2020 08:48

I ordered a home testing kit late last night - better a negative result than to be wandering around with it unknowingly. I think DH thinks I'm being melodramatic, he's now complaining of a head cold sensation.

I felt terrible overnight and this morning, the aches and skin pain are rotten. Even paracetamol isn't helping much and the sweat is running off me. Yet temp says 36.8 this morning. Cough still very infrequent, and I don't have a sore throat.

I still have smell and taste, but I keep smelling phantom smells? I've got a bloody 3 hour Teams meeting/presentation with a client this morning, wondering if I can bash on through it before falling in to bed.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 10/11/2020 08:51

You have a cough, which warrants a test. It doesn’t matter that the cough is hardly noticeable or that you only have 1 of the 3 UK main symptoms.

Please tell me that if you haven’t got a test all your household are self isolating.

Blutopia · 10/11/2020 09:26

Yes, it's only DH and I. He works as a builder so he's outside mostly but he won't go back to work now until I've got a negative test result (or the standard number of days if positive - can't recall if it's 10 or 14 but it's easy to check).

incognitomum · 10/11/2020 10:09

If you're positive it's 10 for you 14 for him

Blutopia · 10/11/2020 15:00

Thanks Incognito. Cough is ramping up now and I've felt very dizzy this morning. Made it through my (virtual) meeting but may have to give in and go back to bed now.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 10/11/2020 15:38

Whatever it is, hope you are feeling better soon, Blu

incognitomum · 10/11/2020 17:09

Blutopia best advice I was given was rest up. I was dizzy to start with.

My sense of smell is coming back slowly Smile

Nochangeplease · 14/11/2020 11:18

Ended up getting her tested. Negative.
