7 or 14 days?

Hi
Sorry of this has been asked elsewhere but can anyone help please?

I'm very confused. I've just been contacted via the test and trace app to say I've been in contact with someone who has tested positive for Coronavirus and told I must isolate for 7 days. There is a great big number 7 flashing red and counting down and it says my isolation period will finish at 23.59 on the 15th.

However, I've just printed my NHS isolation note for my employer and it clearly states my end date as the 21st which is 14 days. I know there was talk of the 14 days being reduced to 7 but it's very confusing when 7 and 14 days are mentioned....both in the same app!

Did they say when you were first exposed?

MarthaWashingtonsFeralTomcat · 08/11/2020 20:56

I'm guessing you had contact with the infected person 7 days ago - Sunday 1st.November - so are already partway through the isolation period. It's still 14 days from contact at present.

dementedpixie · 08/11/2020 20:58

It means your contact was 7 days ago and you have 7 days left

Lifeispassingby · 08/11/2020 21:00

It’s 14days from the day of contact- so if it’s saying 7days that’s 7days left of the 14 days

myoho · 08/11/2020 21:32

Thank you all, that makes sense. 7 days ago we went out for lunch, may be where I was exposed.

Sorry me again.

Thought it made sense but what would account for my app saying 7 days with an end date of 14th and my isolation letter having an end date of 21st which is 14 days from today not 7.

They can't both be right or am I being dense?

I expect the app is correct.

I'm not sure the print offs are tailor made are they? Is it not just because you've printed it today?

myoho · 08/11/2020 22:10

It just says start date 8th Nov and end date 21st.

Can you input a start date on the isolation letter? If not it will just put today's date as day 1

dementedpixie · 08/11/2020 22:12

You need to tell the nhs isolation note thing that the date it starts from is in the past

dementedpixie · 08/11/2020 22:14

On this page you put in a date 7 days ago

7 or 14 days?
myoho · 08/11/2020 22:20

oops that's what I did wrong...I ticked from today. I was right...I was being dense!
Thank you
