Tight chest?

Has anyone’s first symptom been a tightness in the chest? I’ve no other symptoms but this has started today. I do have anxiety but never had this before and wasn’t feeling anxious when it started... I am now though! I work in a nursery. We haven’t had any positive cases.

My chest was tight yesterday too but I think it was all the smoke in the air from bonfire night, could it be that? Mine is ok today.

Idon'tbelieveit

Tight chest was my first symptom.

This was my timeline:
Tuesday - chest felt a bit tight, noted on Zoe covid app

Thursday - chest even tighter, felt a little out of breath if I did too much

Monday - even tighter and more breathless so went to walk in centre, had had pneumonia before and prone to chest infections. They noted my blood pressure and heart rate were high. Went to A&E and chest x rays, etc were clear - they'd been worried about blood clots

Tuesday - went to go as follow up,to,walk in and A&E day before; sent to hospital for chest tightness, breathlessness, v high blood pressure and fast heart rate. As admitted I had a covid test but was on open ward as it wasn't suspected

Wednesday - positive covid test came through

Cough started Wednesday night, a week after chest tightness started. Very briefly had raised temperature Wednesday lunch time (37.8, nut I think it was the fluster from the surprise news, etc) briefly had weird metallic taste on the Thursday/Friday.

That was how mine started, 5 weeks ago.

Keep an eye on it just in case and if concerned get a test - the Zoe app will send you for one if you add that symptom. It did me but for one reason or another I didn't get round to doing it and, as no one suspected covid, I was still going to work etc.

Tight chest was my first symptom for a few days. I described it as like wearing a too tight sports bra, I was still out running etc as certainly wasn't severe initially, a few days later I got aches and cold symptoms and a few days after full blown covid symptoms to go with that. My advice is rest now because I didn't and it got a lot worse.

DH and I had this in March. But we have no way of knowing if it was covid. It might have been, it might have been a different virus unhelpfully doing the rounds at the same time. Sorry not to be of more help! But all we had was the tight chest and a bit of a cough (definitely not "continuous" or persistent), no aches or pains or temperature etc.

Idontbelieveit12 · 08/11/2020 09:03

Thanks everyone. It started on Friday, still got it. I feel tired too. But none of the main 3 covid symptoms to warrant a test. I have put it in the Zoe app but it hasn’t told me to have a test.

I have just come back from having a test as I have a tight chest but also a mild cough. My chest tends to feel heavy when i have a cold though, and also if I am anxious. I wasnt sure whether to book a test given that i have no temperature and feel pretty well, but I am a teacher (Nursery too!) and would hate to spread it around my bubble of 80 children. As soon as i put a cough into the nhs app it advised a test. Strangely I just got back and tried to eat an ameretti biscuit and couldn't taste it at all which has now worried me slightly! Tried some marmite and nutella for comparison and could taste both of those however which is weird!

Idontbelieveit12 · 08/11/2020 09:50

@SameKeyThough it’s strange, I have no cough at all. I have never had this feeling before. Feels like something is stuck in my chest. I have a very sensitive sense of smell usually, i can still smell things but wonder if it’s diminished slightly, along with my taste but I don’t know if I’m imagining things.

OP if you are wanting a test, the guidance does say a change in smell or taste - so I think you could have a test if you wanted one. Hope you feel better soon

Idontbelieveit12 · 08/11/2020 11:19

Thank you, I phoned 111 for advice, missed a callback because I didn’t realise my phone was on silent. Phoned 111 back and they said it was the national covid symptom centre or something that had tried to ring! I never mentioned that I was worried about covid just told them about my chest. So it must be a symptom somewhere for them to ring me....waiting on another call now.

I would try and get a test.
DH had covid symptoms back at the end of Feb, we have no idea if it was covid or not, but I had a very tight chest, just as a pp described it , like wearing a much too tight sports bra. I felt slightly off colour for a day or too, as though I was fighting something something off. The Dc had coughs for a few days.

Idontbelieveit12 · 08/11/2020 13:09

I managed to get a test very quickly, they’ve set up a temporary one in my town. Went an hour ago, I hope the results come quickly x

Hope you feel better soon and it comes back negative. Goodluck

SameKeyThough · 09/11/2020 08:12

OP hope we both get a negative result today! I tested at 8.30am yesterday so hoping to hear before tomorrow so I can send DS to school!!!

YonderTweek · 09/11/2020 10:35

I have this too but I'm hesitant to test because I don't really have the main symptoms. I do feel like I'm wearing a corset and get out of breath when doing anything really. I was hoping ZOE would tell me to get a test as I have also reported constant headaches, body aches, fatigue and dizziness, but it hasn't. Confused I'd be interested to see how those who have has their tests got on. Smile

SirVixofVixHall · 09/11/2020 11:56

Yonder you really need to get tested. Those were the symptoms of my friend who tested positive.

YonderTweek · 09/11/2020 12:30

Yeah, I think I will. Luckily we aren't going anywhere (literally - the whole family is at home for now) so we don't need to worry about inflecting others, but it would be good to know. I'll check what my options are.

Idontbelieveit12 · 09/11/2020 16:19

Had my test at 12 yesterday and got the results just after 9am today. Negative. Still got a tight chest and slept most of yesterday afternoon, weird.
