To be annoyed that school requests parents wear a mask.

School have requested parents a mask on drop offs and pick ups. I’m not anti mask and I will wear one but I’m annoyed.

It’s a rural school. With less than 100 children. Majority of children aged year 4 and up walk to school on their own or at very least walk into the school grounds on their own. I barely see anyone dropping Ds (10) off. Maybe 1 other parent from a distance. Don’t come into close contact with teachers as it’s all done outside anyway.

They also have staggered times. So people going in and out different times and one way system.

With Dd who’s younger I see the parents of the children in her bubble but we all social distance.

Barely come into contact with anyone.

School are saying it’s because parents often talk but what do they do expect us to not talk to each other? What’s the issue with people talking whilst social distancing?! I’d understand if parents were standing in groups but it’s not like that here. Most parents are rushing off to work and too busy to talk. Others drop their kids and walk off quick like me 🤣

But being made to wear masks in a huge outdoor open space with plenty of room to distance? Really necessary? Lots of open space around the school! I just don’t really understand!

I don’t come into close contact with anyone during the school run!

@TrustTheGeneGenie. Childish - Spend a few days on a Covid ward.

What's childish is comparing a mask to a ventilator.

I'm confused. Do people think you can't catch a virus if you're outside?

Enoughnowstop · 06/11/2020 19:29

What’s the worst that can happen? You wear a mask and someone who might have died as a result of fleeting contact with you, only gets a mild dose. Same for you, someone coughs around you, you end up with a mild dose.

Worse case scenario? You wear a mask for a few minutes a day. Confused

Our school introduced this today too. You just do it dont you. What is the big deal?

justanotherneighinparadise · 06/11/2020 19:36

You get used to it.

Newmumatlast · 06/11/2020 19:37

@j101112

I chat from a distance when we are stood on the lines *@emilyfrost*. What are we are expected to do? Put our heads down and not talk to anyone 🤣 I only see one other parent junior side.
No. You're not expected to put your head down and not talk. You're just expected to wear a mask when doing it. It's not a big deal. Just do it. To waste so much energy on this is what is pointless.
TopBitchoftheWitches · 06/11/2020 19:43

Jesus fucking Christ op, just wear the fucking mask.

yummyyummymincepies · 06/11/2020 19:47

This is the rule at most schools I think. The teachers are trying their best to keep the schools open and we should be supporting them in any measures that help them feel more safe! It's not a big deal.

You will also be teaching social responsibility to your children by wearing one.

There are few parents at our school who refuse to wear one. Everything thinks they are twats and they are now the village pariahs.

Have you not considered they might be exempt?
Laurenwilson · 06/11/2020 19:48

As a teacher and parent my question is what is the harm ? Very unreasonable to be so put out about making parents wear masks

yummyyummymincepies · 06/11/2020 19:50

Sadly trustthatgenie they are not and have been quite agressive to the teachers citing their civil rights and conspiracy theories. I know 2 out of the 4 (it's a small school) have told staff (and all of FB) they are NOT exempt but are just refusing Sad

Fair enough, but please don't tar everyone with the same brush. Fair enough you know these people, but some people really are exempt and making these people " pariahs" actually makes me feel very uncomfortable.
yummyyummymincepies · 06/11/2020 19:55

Trustthatgenie oh I know that! I wouldn't ask anyone in a shop for example. I just feel strongly if you can show support to the teachers looking after your children then you should!

I work in a healthcare role where clients are asked to wear masks, so may don't and then tell me (when I'm in an enclosed room with them!) that they don't wear masks because it give them spots! That sort of thing just makes me want to cry

Laurenwilson · 06/11/2020 19:57

If exempt they should have the proof . It is even more vital whilst in another lockdown

bellinisurge · 06/11/2020 19:59

It's been standard here in Greater Manchester since school restarted. Just had message from head staying "unless exempt failure to wear one will now be treated as a violation of uniform rules". Very ordinary area in case you think it's some fancy private school.

Nobody needs "proof" they are exempt.

Only for the kids, surely? Bit of an overreach if that includes parents🤔🤣
Rhiannon13 · 06/11/2020 20:28

I disagree. If I was exempt I'd want others to know there was good reason why I wasn't wearing a mask, considering this puts others in danger.

Valmur · 06/11/2020 20:33

Put a mask on. Set a good example. Stop moaning about it.

Danascully2 · 06/11/2020 20:35

From a biological point of view I think it's pointless to wear one outside unless really very crowded so will make no difference at our school but I will wear it because it doesn't really inconvenience me majorly and if it makes the teachers feel safer and more supported or maybe helps remind people it's not 'business as usual' then possibly there is some benefit there.

WaterOffADucksCrack · 06/11/2020 20:37

YABU. You sound like you think it should be tailored to you specifically, it's a blanket rule to cover everyone.

Not everyone wants to disclose their medical history to strangers.
corythatwas · 06/11/2020 21:28

I’m aware it’s not difficult but when I barely see anyone and keep myself to myself. Seems pointless! Seems they are making everyone wear one because a few parents are stood around talking but most of us are not.

So what do you expect the school to do? Decide that Rosie's mum and Jessica's mum and Lucy's mum must wear a mask because you can't trust those three not to talk to one another but Imogen's mum is completely antisocial so she doesn't have to wear a mask? Or keep members of staff circulating observing parental behaviour and bellowing "put your mask on" when they see to mums speaking to each other? You either have one rule or no rule.
