Is this an essential journey?

My mobility scooter broke down today. I rely on it for dog walking/hospital visits etc, as I cannot walk far unaided. The manufacturer is about an hours drive away, and to get it fixed, I’ll need to drop it off then go back for it a couple of days later.

It’s not a run of the mill scooter; it’s made by an electric bike manufacturer, so I can’t really take it anywhere else, however, I really can’t manage without it for a month, but I’m also wary of doing a long journey at the minute.

Yes, that would be classed as essential as you need it to get about.

40somethingJBJ · 05/11/2020 22:15

Fab, thanks. I thought that would be the case, but I’ve barely gone further than my local Asda’s click and collect point in the last 6 months, so I’m doubting my own judgement!

You rely on it. Totally essential OP.

squeekums · 05/11/2020 22:20

Yes, of course. Dont doubt yourself
How sad you have to ask if your mobility is a worthy cause for travel
Not that your sad OP but the situation that brings about such thought

Numberblock7 · 05/11/2020 22:23

Yes. You’re allowed to drive to a garage to get your car fixed, this is the same thing.

40somethingJBJ · 05/11/2020 22:23

It really does have you questioning every little thing at the moment doesn’t it?! I’m going to ring them tomorrow and hopefully drop it off over the weekend. My friend has just offered to pick my dog up tomorrow when she goes past with hers, so at least she won’t miss out too much.

Wolfiefan · 05/11/2020 22:25

Hope you get it sorted soon OP.

BeeFarseer · 05/11/2020 22:26

Of course it is, it's your mobility aid. It is allowed and don't you even feel guilty for a second!

40somethingJBJ · 05/11/2020 22:26

Thanks everyone :)

Of course it's essential.
And it's essential to get out and about and keep physically connected to the world Flowers

DespairingHomeowner · 05/11/2020 22:39

Without a doubt ... and I’m usually v strict on the rules

Car & bike repair shops are opening: your scooter is essential to you, as transport is essential for many for work etc

cushioncovers · 05/11/2020 22:55

it's for health reasons and it's for mobility so I would say it's essential

Brighterthansunflowers · 05/11/2020 23:00

Definitely essential!

movingonup20 · 05/11/2020 23:15

Definitely essential and if you need something in the interim, the Red Cross hire them out as do some shops

IntoP20 · 05/11/2020 23:25

I think so. Hope you get it sorted OP

40somethingJBJ · 05/11/2020 23:30

Thanks :)
