Do you think the lockdown will just be for 4 weeks?

I'd assumed it would be but saw another thread saying in passing it would be longer.

Hell no.

CoronaIsShit · 05/11/2020 16:44

Unless infections start rising exponentially again, yes.

I doubt it will go on for longer. The High Street will be finished as will most bars and restaurants.

I am hoping they’ve done this to reduce infections before they inevitably rise again with people meeting up for Christmas. I would expect another lockdown in January though. I think we’ll have a series of circuit breakers through to March.

Requinblanc · 05/11/2020 16:58

Yes but the plan seems to be back to the tier system though which in some cases are as 'strict' as a lockdown.

If they try to push for an extension at that point the economy will just collapse and the Tories will go for Johnson's head.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 05/11/2020 17:08

Yes I think so but loads of us will be in tier 3 on finishing, which doesn’t change much

Heatherjayne1972 · 05/11/2020 18:09

Well if they open everything up on 2nd December then everyone will probably go shopping in a mad pre Christmas rush
Which means that two weeks or later cases will rise again and we will be in lockdown again by mid January
So I think they may keep things as they are for quite a while
Although that will devastate the retail and hospitality sector

LabiaMinoraPissusFlapus · 05/11/2020 18:10

I think it will go back to the tiered approach. The government will want everyone spending their money in the run up to Christmas.

StellaGib · 05/11/2020 18:14

Not a chance.

Remember the first lockdown was supposed to be 3 weeks? And we're starting in a worse position with weaker restrictions this time.

Quartz2208 · 05/11/2020 18:15

This lockdown - the legislation clearly ends in 28 days and I dont think there is much appetite in the House of Commons to extend the current level of restrictions

We will however go back to the tiered approach so there will still be restrictions in place - numbers I think will effect which tier people are on

doubleshotespresso · 05/11/2020 18:18

No

Waxonwaxoff0 · 05/11/2020 18:24

No. To me the extension of furlough means they're planning on it being longer.

CoffeeAndCake3 · 05/11/2020 18:24

No I don't think so. Is this even close to the lockdown we had before? People are carrying on as normal minus being able to go to some shops. Alot of shops have found a way to stay open too. It took months to bring the numbers down before, I can't see it changing for some time.

laudemio · 05/11/2020 18:35

I think we will get positive vaccine news and the lockdown will revert to tiers early Dec. BUT we will all be tier 3.
Then Christmas relaxation for a few days.
Then tier 3 again till mid Jan (for sales)
Then tier 4 until mid Feb unless t&t working by then
Then back to reducing tiers March into Spring and summer. No restrictions from Aug 2021

EssentialHummus · 05/11/2020 18:38

There will be some relaxation to facilitate Christmas shopping, then it’ll all go to hell again come early Jan.

notevenat20 · 05/11/2020 18:41

I think so. I say that as it seems the tier system was already having some effect so there is a good chance the lockdown will work

ThankyouAutumn · 05/11/2020 18:43

I don't know but I wish posters would stop saying the first was only meant to be three weeks - nobody ever said it would be only three weeks and it was very clear it would be much longer, we were simply told the restrictions would be reviewed three weekly
