Genuine question - can she? It is work for her and can’t be done remotely as requires touch.

@LastTrainEast

They can just send their astral form surely?

I knew someone who did reiki and he said he could do it via email. Grin

Via email. Oh dear

"...complimentary therapies to continue as they are under the banner of mental health"

Seriously, people do know these are scams don''t they? Ludicrous ones for the most part involving stroking your aura and exercising your chi.

LastTrainEast · 05/11/2020 22:41

callistography he was not the brightest person I knew, but he was kind and thought he was helping people. I never did tell him what I thought of it.

DrDetriment · 05/11/2020 22:53

I am a member of CNHC and got an email today confirming this @callistography. Also see www.cnhc.org.uk/working-during-covid-19-latest-updates.

DrDetriment · 05/11/2020 22:54

I think the OP has muddied the waters somewhat by calling her reiki therapist a spiritual healer!

MaggieFS · 05/11/2020 23:16

What sort of spirits? I find vodka quite healing and essential.

Well, they are not scams if people think they are supporting their mental health - if people think they are, then they are.

Reiki doesn't require touch. (I don't believe it works, either, but from the time in my past when I was into that kind of thing, I know it can be done remotely.)

More worrying would be if you personally feel dependent on reiki, i.e. that if she doesn't come, you feel something bad will happen. If that's the case, I think your GP would be more use than the reiki practitioner.

FWIW I'm involved in Christian faith healing, so I do believe that spiritual healing can work. Just not reiki. And Christian healing could definitely be done from a distance, so you could consider asking your vicar if there is a healing group in your parish or nearby that could pray for you. Wouldn't do any harm ... unless of course you got dependent on it.

draughtycatflap · 06/11/2020 11:25

I think she’s just arrived OP. “There’s somebody at the door. There’s somebody at the door”.

Can my spiritual healer still come over?
DrDetriment · 06/11/2020 12:13

CNHC have just confirmed that although they can still practice, therapists can't go to clients' houses. So looks like you'll need to go to her OP.

IrkedEssex · 06/11/2020 12:22

@DrDetriment - the CNHC website appears only to be saying therapists in Scotland can't go to client's houses. Am I missing something?

DrDetriment · 06/11/2020 12:26

@IrkedEssex go to www.cnhc.org.uk/working-during-covid-19-latest-updates and it says:
'Mobile working:
You cannot provide treatment to a client in their own home unless you have received a direct referral from a statutory regulated health professional', which I doubt applies to the OP.

IrkedEssex · 06/11/2020 13:04

@DrDetriment - thanks.

LolaSmiles · 06/11/2020 13:08

How can this really come under healthcare? 🤷‍♀️

Storyofcats · 06/11/2020 13:57

Its ridiculous. It's no more healthcare than my mate coming round for chat and a bottle of wine. It might make you feel better but it's not healthcare.

ilovesooty · 06/11/2020 14:11

@DrDetriment

Yes she can OP. The complimentary and natural health council, which includes reiki, today clarified that the government is allowing complimentary therapies to continue as they are under the banner of mental health. Check out the CNHC website to see if your practitioner is registered with them.
That link says that practitioners cannot visit other people's homes.
ilovesooty · 06/11/2020 14:12

Sorry, I missed the posts just above mine saying the same thing.

callistography · 06/11/2020 17:46

@DrDetriment The link you gave clearly states that you cannot go and work in people's houses.

So I'm not too sure why you have used this link to then advise the OP that her spiritual healer can go to her house.

On a separate note, I find it astounding that this is being allowed at all as all other non-essential work has been stopped. None of this is essential. It isn't going to save a life or provide any tangible medical benefit. Yes, it can he nice but so can having a massage or a pedicure...

DrDetriment · 06/11/2020 18:20

@callistography I corrected my advice in post further up if you read what I wrote. I said that it had been clarified that she could practice but not go to someone's house. Read the thread.

katy1213 · 06/11/2020 18:23

Mine is already in a bubble with Elizabeth I but she's asked Cleopatra to drop in if she's passing.

Xenia · 06/11/2020 18:52

Not sure. There are restrictions on gatherings but also most people can still work. www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2020/1200/pdfs/uksi_20201200_en.pdf

Apologies. I had read the thread but missed that post.

IrkedEssex · 06/11/2020 19:07

@callistography - I assume you are referring to non-essential work in this particular sector having been stopped, since it is certainly not the case that all non-essential work (by your definition) has been stopped.

I know many a practitioner of various alternative therapies who have clients whose lives are improved immeasurably by the services they provide, and who really struggle without their treatments, so it sticks in the craw when people see fit to judge what is or is not essential to others, but I digress.

As someone with various disabling conditions I completely agree that complementary therapies can improve life greatly but I strongly feel that right now, the health and safety of people is paramount.

I know from vast experience how much better reflexology makes me feel and how spending time in a hot tub or on heated beds helps me not suffer from very painful flare ups of one of my conditions.

However. These are not essential. They really really help but in a pandemic situation I am sensible enough to not want to put myself or others at risk by trying to continue such measures. Hospital or GP care that is essential to maintaining my health is a different matter.

No one requires the services of a spiritual healer right now as an essential. They may really really want it and it may make them feel better but it's not essential to their health anymore than having a massage or pedicure is.
