Negative test result

Posting for advice as everything I read seems contradictory. My daughters dad text me to say his girlfriends work colleague tested positive for COVID on Monday. His work mate also lives in the same house as the positive COVID test so he's had second hand exposure through his girlfriend and his work colleague and reading between the lines I think he has been round the person with the positive test at some point in the previous week. He and neither his girlfriend or the guy he works with have symptoms but obviously self isolated. He went and got a test despite not having symptoms and it's come back negative, he is under the impression it means he can still see our daughter this weekend and I'm unsure as a negative result when he may not have had time to develop symptoms yet seems a bit meaningless. Advice seems a bit contradictory online, what would you do? Dd is 12 and really wants to see him but I really can't risk time off work (I'm a teacher) because he passes it on to us.

If he had contact with a positive case then he should isolate for 14 days. A negative test does not shorten this period of time

If he has just had contact with a contact and not with the positive person then he doesn't need to isolate

And close contact would be contact during the 48 hours before symptoms started and up to 10 days afterwards

He was in the same room as them on Friday apparently

He needs to isolate for 14 days due to close contact. I wouldn’t be sending my daughter to stay with him. Ask him how he’d feel if he later got symptoms and passed it on to his daughter.

His test result is irrelevant

Depends when symptoms started. If they started on Sunday then he needs to isolate. If they were on Monday he doesn't

He needs to isolate fir 14 days from last Griday & of course he can't see DD. IDIOT.

Wouldn't be splitting hairs between Sun/Mon symptoms as initial symptoms are easily disregarded as normal 'just not quite right' things.
