Do you believe 2021 will be better?

I’m just asking this for reassurance tbh, not that anyone on here has a crystal ball.

I know that covid will not go away, there will still be cases of it and hospitalisation but do you think in 2021 we will be able to wave goodbye to social distancing, mask wearing and all the restrictions?

Surely there will have to be a day were Boris says the restrictions/lockdowns are over for good and aren’t coming back again.

OP posts:
dollychopss · 03/11/2020 19:58

Yes !!!! I have started to think they cannot keep locking down , don't listen to conspiracy theories and try to not read the news I was on a right state x

dollychopss · 03/11/2020 19:58

It will be done gradual though not one day we wake up and all over x

Waxonwaxoff0 · 03/11/2020 19:59

Yes. Not back to 2019 normal, but things are looking promising with vaccines, faster testing and treatments.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 03/11/2020 20:00

I do think mask wearing will continue for a while though.

frozendaisy · 03/11/2020 20:02

Can't be much worse!

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 03/11/2020 20:05

Maybe the end or start of 2022. The vaccine roll out will take a long time and so masks, SD etc will stay with us. Lockdowns may be on and off depending on cases.

megletthesecond · 03/11/2020 20:10

Late spring and summer should be ok.
I think we'll need to be very careful next winter then maybe spring 2022 might be heading back to normal. Depends on vaccines and treatment really. And when the WHO declare the pandemic over.

mrsswayze · 03/11/2020 20:13

No not until a vaccine is found

BlueBlancmange · 03/11/2020 20:14

@mrsswayze

No not until a vaccine is found
It's sounding like vaccinations will probably be starting next month.
DenimDrift · 03/11/2020 20:15

no i don't. i think we will be facing the fallout and the reality of the financial side.

but covid will linger for years.....and a vaccine will probably bring a whole new set of problems

AriettyHomily · 03/11/2020 20:17

Not really the financial hut is going to be massive and ongoing for years

OrangeBananaFish · 03/11/2020 20:28

Pandemic wise yes. There is likely to be a vaccine to a small percentage in December and surely this would grow so by spring more and more people would be able to have it. The testing is being ramped up with Liverpool being first to have tests for anyone, hopefully this will go well and it can be expanded over the winter to more places. Plus medical advances with treatment being made.

Economy wise then no, not for a long long time.

A lot of people are going to feel the effects for a long time, whether that's grief from losing loved ones, losing work and possibly homes due to the economy or having some sort of stress or bad memories from working on Covid wards etc.

Once the pandemic comes down to manageable levels with number of cases etc the effects will still be felt for a long time to come.

grassisjeweled · 03/11/2020 20:31

Mask wearing, distancing etc here to stay I reckon.

sausagepastapot · 03/11/2020 20:33

I know people who know people and the vaccine will probably not be rolled out wholly until the spring.

I believe when the kids go back to school in 2021, things will be relatively normal.

olivesonapizza · 03/11/2020 20:34

Mask wearing, distancing etc here to stay I reckon.

Right, ok then Hmm

Northernbeachbum · 03/11/2020 20:36

@grassisjeweled you think we will be wearing masks and social distancing from anyone we dont live with forever??? I cant see it personally but that's a sad viewpoint. I cant wait to go hug all my friends again and I'm not a huggy person!

Northernbeachbum · 03/11/2020 20:39

southeastdweller · 03/11/2020 20:41

I guess a vaccine will emerge sometime in 2021 but generally I think it's going to be just a shit year as this one, with tiered restrictions going on until at least the summer and we'll see more and more the effects of lockdowns with increased suicides, domestic violence figures, depression rates, and huge numbers of repossessions. The high street will look different as well with fewer branches of well-known favourites.

annabel85 · 03/11/2020 20:43

2021 will be better, but there's not going to be a day where Boris announces everything is back open and we're back to normal (or most other countries).

It's going to be a gradual thing and there will be some restrictions through 2021 at least. A vaccine would be the gamechanger but it'll take time to roll out.

bengalcat · 03/11/2020 20:44

Possibly but tbh I’ve decided 2022 should be normal and anything before that will be a bonus .

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 03/11/2020 20:59

I do t think Boris will announce anything. I think he’ll resign on Feb 1st.

And then Rishi or some other dork will announce stuff

roastedsaltedpeanut · 03/11/2020 21:03

all the masks wearing, lock down, social distancing measures are delay tactics, delaying the inevitable deaths. So that the sector of population most vulnerable to the virus will die, but the delay tactics spread out the deaths over time. And allow the NHS to treat non virus related case at pre-COVID level, allowing for the same level of death rate for non COVID cases.
Coupled with side effect of economic depression and mass unemployment, 2021 is not looking good for the society. Worse than this year I reckon.
On the other hand, The virus is forcing the whole population to evolve overnight. Anyone unable adapt to the new normal will inevitably suffer. However lots of clever and adventurous people are making millions from their apps, websites and new online businesses.
Whether 2021 will be better or worse for you personally depends on your adaptability.

I don't have a crystal ball myself but I know someone with a glass eye. Does that count hel

JacobReesMogadishu · 03/11/2020 21:08

No, I think it’ll be worse.
