When does it end?

This might seem a really dumb question but I can't find a definitive answer anywhere!

Lockdown starts at 00.01 on 5/11 that's clear but it ends on 2nd December - is that 00.01 on 2nd or does lockdown include 2nd?

Trying to communicate with our customers about reopening but others in our industry are saying different things.

I've only seen the independent give a time. We just don't want to give out incorrect info and to be honest we don't know who to trust Confused

I wouldn’t give and end time, the government has said it might last longer and it probably will.

EdithWeston · 03/11/2020 07:53

There is no definitive answer

Can you fudge it by saying 'on or around 2 December, we shall be in touch nearer the time when lockdown lifting measures have been confirmed'

(I'm assuming you'll want to remain in touch with clients, so further emails will be in your plan anyhow)

XmasIsComming · 03/11/2020 07:55

No one knows yet. I think it will last longer than they initially tell us.

LittlePinguin · 03/11/2020 07:58

Sorry I know that it might not end then and yes we've been vague in our communications so far.

I guess my point is that the government have actually given a date but we can't work out if that day is included in the lockdown or not. I guess it really is as clear af

Thanks all Smile

It's always been 00.01h say of the date things start can only presume if it ends it will be the same

onedayinthefuture · 03/11/2020 09:14

If this does end on 2 December, the shops will be carnage. People go mad at Christmas at the best of times.

DianaT1969 · 03/11/2020 09:41

Why not be vague at this point? Say that business will resume when allowed and encourage customers to follow your social media, or give them a quick way to make an appointment once you are allowed (Calendly or similar). You are giving yourself extra stress by trying to plan for a definite end.

As it is for 4 weeks starting at 00.01 hours on Thursday 5th November and ending on Wednesday 2nd December, it will end at midnight on Wednesday 2nd. (Otherwise it would be 3 weeks and 6 days).

It will only be until then and the country will then go back into tiers depending on how each area is doing at the time. If infections, deaths, hospital admittances in your area are high at that time, you can expect to be in a high tier. Ditto for low. We all need to do our absolute best to try and be in a low tier area with limited restrictions.
