I know I am not alone in this. It's just another shitty day in this bloody nightmare.

OP posts:
Aquamarine1029 · 01/11/2020 00:59

My husband and I have already decided Christmas isn't happening in our home this year. Every Christmas is drudgery, but this year can fuck right off.

Bargebill19 · 01/11/2020 01:00

Op you are not wrong. We haven’t done Christmas for years, yet every year their is some ‘friend’ who tries to get us to join in/lighten up/come for drinks etc etc.
No just no. If other want to celebrate - fine, but leave us out of it.

imtired1234 · 01/11/2020 01:01

So you think closing all shops and pubs and businesses and not being aloud to travel and not being aloud to mix with other people Being a prisoner in your home unless it's to get essentials or work is light 🤨🤔 interesting

BlackPetunia · 01/11/2020 01:01

I’m on retail and this year we have Boxing Day off as well!

No point!

BlackPetunia · 01/11/2020 01:05

@imtired1234 well come on, it’s not all shops is it, most find a way to stay open claiming essential!!

Businesses aren’t ALL closed, you aren’t a prisoner and you can go out to meet one other person! More than many other countries had!

Summerfreeze · 01/11/2020 01:05

I don't get making Christmas such a big THING anyway. Christmas ads coming out in November etc. It's all a bit silly. Maybe this year will force us to take stock and step back from the whole commercial nonsense side of it. I do understand people wanting to see families but as long as people aren't actually alone for Christmas (who don't want to be I mean), I don't think we need to be prioritising the big table and crackers for 12 etc.

Summerfreeze · 01/11/2020 01:06

Oh and absolutely lockdown light (=pointless) with the schools and unis open.

TidyOmlette · 01/11/2020 01:06

I’m frontline NHS and I adore Christmas. I am praying constantly that we get this under control and I can finally spend some time with my family. In Scotland we haven’t been able to go to restaurants or pubs for ages, I’m under tier 3 which means I haven’t been able to visit family for months either.

imtired1234 · 01/11/2020 01:07

@BlackPetunia only supermarkets and well I will feel like a prisoner I know I did last time and a lot of people are going to struggle with mental health

imtired1234 · 01/11/2020 01:08

@Summerfreeze THANK YOU!👏🏻🤦‍♀️

ParkheadParadise · 01/11/2020 01:09

I couldn't care less about Christmas.
I'll be happy to spend it in my own house with dh & dd.
Every Christmas turns out the same in our family. My brothers are pissed, sil's faces are like thunder. My oldest sister will have too much to drink and fight with anyone. My other sisters will pretend everything is great. All the kids spend the day fighting over toys and hitting each other.
Just thinking about it I'm locking myself down🤣🤣

imtired1234 · 01/11/2020 01:11

This years been ruined allready who cares about Christmas I know I don't. The fact there doing all this all just for one day is ridiculous is it really that important

grapewine · 01/11/2020 01:12

People are already asking what I'm doing for new years. WTF? I could not care less. Same with Christmas. This shitty year can fuck all the way off.

MadameBlobby · 01/11/2020 01:13

Me neither

ErrolTheDragon · 01/11/2020 01:14

@AnyFucker

I would like to swop this Christmas, and every Christmas, for Covid to never have happened. Wouldn't that be swell ?
If only.

Thing is a huge percentage of businesses make most of their money at Xmas.
BlackPetunia · 01/11/2020 01:16

@imtired1234 no not only supermarkets..... b&m home bargains argos b&q wickes Homebase..... all essential retailers

Probably more

AdoraBell · 01/11/2020 01:17

I know you didn’t ask this AnyFucker, but YANBU.

BlackPetunia · 01/11/2020 01:17

I planted my spring bulbs, I’m focusing on that!

No runs, so no London marathon! No half marathon or even parkrun. Spring used to be full of the good stuff

imtired1234 · 01/11/2020 01:19

@BlackPetunia not everyone lives near lots of shops I only have one Tesco where I live and there saying you can't travel. ... and Argos...... definitely not. the Argos near me is still closed now and has been closed for months

imtired1234 · 01/11/2020 01:20

@BlackPetunia it's not a light lockdown end of

DeRigueurMortis · 01/11/2020 01:24

I usually host for Christmas (up to 12) because we have the room, in MMA good cook and we in the "middle" wrt location.

We've agreed that regardless of the rules we will all be spending Christmas in our own homes this year.

I'm surprised how relived I am in a way.

Whilst it's lovely to see everyone, I'm reminded of how much effort I put into Christmas each year hosting that many people from Christmas Eve to the day after Boxing Day.

The family do volunteer to "chip in" for the cost, but it's still me and DH (but mainly me) running around to sort the house out for guests (and cleaning after they've gone), doing the shopping, cooking etc and I've been doing it for over a decade.

In a way we've all settled into this rut where I'm just expected to do it, so bizarrely the silver cloud for me is an opportunity to have a "year off" and have a much more relaxed Christmas with the expectation that it also gives me the chance to not necessarily pick up the reins again next year now the tradition has been broken.

SleepingStandingUp · 01/11/2020 01:25

@imtired1234

This lockdown is absolutely pointless and especially since there not closing schools... My baby is due before it will end I better not have to give birth alone I am fuming also my partner lives far away so won't be able to see him until the baby is like a few weeks old
There's no reason he can't be there for the birth if he can get here in time, but that's the same without a lockdown. And he can also visit his child, there isn't a travel ban per se. Are you not in a bubble with him?
Kapalika · 01/11/2020 01:25

I don’t care much for Christmas generally. Only do it really because of the children.

Danniiaddy · 01/11/2020 01:32

It’s likely to be just me and OH this year the way things are going but I’m still planning on celebrating. Just not the way we normally would.
It will be nice to have a few days off to relax as an essential worker!
