I’m assuming they will be but can’t find any info.

Dc had theory test canx in March - eventually taken in July. Practical test is on 11th Nov hoping against hope it’ll go ahead Sad

They have confirmed they're cancelled now I see. DD can't even manage to book one, so even less chance now with a further 4 weeks backlog.

There's guidance out from DVSA to diving instructors saying to halt lessons during November too. But does anyone know whether I'd be allowed to take DD out to teach her myself?

TicTacTwo · 02/11/2020 17:58

As you're the same household I would say it's allowed.

KittyMcKitty · 02/11/2020 18:09

Yes as you’re the same household. My dc drives to and from school every day (with me in the car of course). In fact they do pretty much all the driving.

They say on average someone needs 45 hours of driving practice to pass.

DD's had two practical tests cancelled during the last lockdown, then a failure. She got to retake her test this morning and luckily passed. Very relieved as she was seriously at risk of her Theory expiring and unlike MOTs there was no extension to them

Congrats to your dd! The theory test expiry thing is a bit of a sword of damocles isn't it, I really think they should be extended during this. At least ds has until July 2022 to pass his, with a date in January but even if the test goes ahead he needs a few more lessons before then.

During the last lockdown people got very sanctimonious about taking kids out for lessons but I can't really see the harm if they are close to taking their test. Unfortunately ds is learning on a manual and we only have automatics so I think it might confuse him too much although perhaps we could practice things like parking between cardboard boxes or something!

I think strictly speaking the answer is no, but she could drive the scenic route to do your essential shopping (we're in the same situation).

LemonBreeland · 02/11/2020 19:48

Is there any news on theory tests yet? DS hasn't had any email or anything

Not so far.

That’s what I’m thinking. Might need essential food shopping on the way back from school!

Thanks. DD is in the position that she's taken a 8 month long job in Europe so hers would have expired before she was back in the country.

Can your DS keep practising in your car? DD has her own so was able to put in lots of hours whilst she had a gap in driving lessons. She must have done 100+ hours.

Baaaahhhhh · 03/11/2020 08:43

Of course parents can take their children out for driving lessons. You live together. I will be letting DD drive to school as her instructor cancelled lessons last night. Poor DD. She was caught in the April backlog to even get a provisional, then couldn't get an instructor. Goodness knows when we will be able to get her tests booked. Yet another thing that generation are missing out on.

Peppafrig · 03/11/2020 09:44

Depends where you are ? They are definitely happening in Scotland .

Bramshott · 03/11/2020 09:55

Gutted by this, poor DD's driving lessons have been stop start stop start all year, and now her theory test is cancelled. We're rural and driving is such an important life skill round here (not saying it's not for everyone).

Aragog · 03/11/2020 10:50

That's how we kept dd practising over last lockdown. She drove to the shops, she drove when dh had to call in at work to collect files, etc.

We didn't want her going weeks without driving. Her test was cancelled on the first day of lockdown. Her new test was cancelled due to the inspector testing positive. She's now gone to university and who knows when she can organise another test?! She's trying to rearrange lessons in her university town now, but again halted as she's likely to have to do her test over there now.

So whenever she comes home she goes out with dh for a drive.

Aragog · 03/11/2020 10:52

We are hoping they will extend the theory tests too as it will soon be a year since dd passed her's but who knows how long til she can do her actual test now.

tootiredtospeak · 03/11/2020 11:02

Yes cancelled mine had theory next week

MitziK · 03/11/2020 13:39

They've just announced that theory tests have been cancelled for lockdown.

KittyMcKitty · 09/11/2020 17:39

Sigh ... so ds’s test which was on 11th November has been rebooked by the DVLA for 2nd Feb. His first theory test (which was cancelled) was on 19th March Sad
