Can’t see anything about it, just that we can exercise outside.

Anyone know?

The rules haven't been published yet, all we have is the guidance. Which may or may not be reflected in the legislation when we get it, which is supposed to be Tuesday.

It isn't the clearest on people who have clients in their own homes though: some of those types of businesses are covered in section 4 which details closures, but not all. It says that you can leave home to work in other people's homes, which would cover things like cleaners as there's no mention of it having to be essential work in other people's homes either. Dog groomers usually work in their own houses though don't they?

I hope there is a petition some where. As I've seen someone say, closing gyms etc but allowing schools to be open is having an area to piss in the pool.

I've cried and cried. No I'm not selfish for wanting to take care of my mental health and stay fit.

I wish there was a way to protest and be heard that gyms should be open.

Sadly my gym is closing from Thursday (temporarily, I hope). Still, at least I got three weeks' exercise in.

Left climbing centre this morning after ds's lesson. Not one case has been traced to them, yet they will have to close down on Wednesday. Made me emotional, sad and angry at the same time. They have put a massive amount of work into improving the centre and have rigorous standards.

I'm very unhappy about gyms and swimming pools closing. My husband has bad knees and the only exercise he can realistically do is in a swimming pool. I can exercise at home pretty well but it's not the same and thus not quite as mentally satisfying. Mostly I feel gutted for the gym owners. There's next to no transmission in gyms - the rate of cases possibly due to gyms is vanishingly small. They've all gone to so much trouble to keep us safe and have to close anyway. It's wrong.

Closing swimming pools is STUPID
Closing gyms will do more harm than good
This government are utterly incompetent.

Frazzled2207 · 01/11/2020 16:45

all good arguments. I don't use gyms but am pretty pissed off about my kids sports all stopping.
However I don't think in this case it is about x being less risk than y. I think the government just wants everyone to stay at home as much as possible because frankly, interacting with anyone, anywhere, is risky right now.
Remains to be seen however that the government's plan will work. I am sceptical.

petition.parliament.uk/petitions/555079 anyone want to sign a petition asking for outdoor swimming to remain open?

Lurkingforawhile · 01/11/2020 18:28

@Busybusy1busy1 I've signed. I know how much outdoor swimming can help people and I can't see how it can be more risky than going for a run provided the changing is sorted out. It's not for me though (other than heated posh lido's) I like pools and chlorine!

Busybusy1busy1 · 01/11/2020 18:38

Thanks Lurkingforawhile! Agree - changing would have to be poolside but that is ok!

KatherineJaneway · 02/11/2020 07:23

This petition to keep gyms open has nearly half a million names, I've signed

In case anyone is interested, Parliament will debate the petition in the post above on Monday 23rd November. Might mean gyms open when lockdown is extended in most areas.
