Can’t see anything about it, just that we can exercise outside.

Anyone know?

This www.gov.uk/guidance/new-national-restrictions-from-5-november set of rules from
the gov website suggests that you can visit 'public gardens whether or not you pay to enter' - hoping this means NT is allowed.

cologne4711 · 31/10/2020 20:57

Garden centres are allowed to open too.

Plummeting · 31/10/2020 20:58

Mind you same link says Botanical Gardens to close

GabsAlot · 31/10/2020 20:58

i cant see driving lessons carrying on-to me it seemed everything has to close except food shops and the like and anyone who cant work from home but i dont thik sitting in small confined space would count

Rayna37 · 31/10/2020 21:15

Ohhhh lockdown for DHs big birthday! Steak, Rioja and an episode of the West Wing has gone some way to cheer me up.

Feellikefrighteningyeah · 31/10/2020 21:24

Can kids indoor sport lessons go ahead?

Plummeting · 31/10/2020 21:26

@Feellikefrighteningyeah

Can kids indoor sport lessons go ahead?
No.
Versace104 · 31/10/2020 21:26

No they can't apparently :(

oodlenoodles · 31/10/2020 21:26

Can't figure out whether baby/toddler groups count as 'education' or recreation or what Sad no reference to them I can find
I was assuming driving lessons would be a no.

EasterIssland · 31/10/2020 21:28

Nt I’d say it’s allowed as now it’s ticketed. No ticket no enter unlike In March

Solasum · 31/10/2020 21:31

@oodlenoodles support groups including for new parents are allowed. So baby group prob ok, toddler not?

Frazzled2207 · 31/10/2020 21:33

@oodlenoodles
Seems to suggest “new parent” groups can go ahead but other than that I’d say no.
Guardian suggesting kids outdoor sport might be able to happen but guidance is currently unclear

I’m wondering about my hobby. Hiking. The Ramblers have been running group walks again, as it’s classed as an organised sport with a professional body. They’ve been allowing group walks of up to 30 people but in reality most local groups have been capping each walk at 10-12 people. I’ve felt quite safe, being outside and there’s lots of space for everyone to social distance. I’m not aware of anyone I know catching Covid on a walk. It’s great for physical and mental health too. Hoping the group walks can continue, as they’ve been a lifeline for me.

I am bloody devastated about gyms. I am obese. I also had a suicidal breakdown recently. Not to mention suffering from SAD meaning things can only get worse as we approach winter.

They are now closing the only thing that is keeping my mental (and physical) health together.

I can't see myself surviving to see the end of this second lockdown

purplejungle · 31/10/2020 21:46

Even if baby groups can continue under the 'new parent' clause, it says max 15 only which if it includes the baby is likely to be problematic... really hope they can continue though, lifeline for so many new parents

lljkk · 31/10/2020 21:50

They shouldn't really hear at same time as rest of us ideally, should they? I can't imagine gyms or pools being open again this side of 2021. I will try to go swimming daily until they shut.

So are gyms staying open or what?
Lurkingforawhile · 31/10/2020 21:53

Thanks for sharing the gov.uk link. Sad that I'll be stopping swimming and riding again, but relieved dentists seem to be ok. My aerobics instructor has already been in touch tomorrow restart online classes, and my yoga studio never stopped them. Feel very sorry for those who will miss gyms - fitness is so important in resilience

TazMac · 31/10/2020 21:55

The reason I can’t go hiking by myself is because I can’t map read. Plus I like the social element.

tigerbear · 31/10/2020 21:59

Anyone know about OUTDOOR pools?
Swimming at the local lido has been the only thing to make me lose the weight from first lockdown, and only exercise I’ve really enjoyed in the last few months.

I don’t think so, you can exercise with one person from a different household I think. But certainly not larger groups.
Orcus · 31/10/2020 22:07

@StealthPolarBear

I suppose the issue with national trust type places is that if its anything like last time you're not meant to go out, other than for work or shopping. Exercise was meant to be reasonably local. You didn't see cars on the road.
There must be at least hundreds of thousands of people living within walking distance of an NT property though, maybe millions!
TazMac · 31/10/2020 22:07

That’s what I’ve just been reading too. Shame though, as it’s a really low risk hobby (when it comes to covid transmission). I’ll probably get an email from the ramblers next week, they have been really good at communicating through all this.

Imissmoominmama · 31/10/2020 22:10

@TazMac- I’ve just had word from my walking guide that there will be no walks after this Wednesday Sad.

I’ll do my own, but I’m terrible for getting lost, so I’ll probably stick to ones I’ve done a few times. Being part of a group is very motivating.

There are some free online map reading courses on the OS website. I’m going to give them a go. Will probably still get lost though.

I agree that being in a group is motivating, I can walk for a lot longer when I’m in a group.
