I assume these are off now until 2nd December? Does anyone know, Boris was, as always, low on details.

I moved house during the first lockdown.

PopcornPugs · 31/10/2020 19:27

That’s comforting. Were removal firms still operating?

I didn't use one to be fair as I bought new furniture so didn't have much stuff to take. I paid a man with a van. This was back in June so I don't see why house moves shouldn't happen this time around. Smile

Frenchsticks · 31/10/2020 19:29

We were supposed to exchange Monday and complete Friday this week coming. I am desperately hoping against hope it can still go ahead. It's already been delayed so many times and we are so so close. I know it's not the most important issue by a long shot but I'll be devastated if we have to wait yet again for Goodness knows how long.

Notsurewhatsgoingon · 31/10/2020 19:29

Following this. Sorry to jump on op

Grobagsforever · 31/10/2020 19:30

And me..

Mindymomo · 31/10/2020 19:30

Some removal companies cancelled, but not all in the last lockdown. I hope house sales can continue we are due to exchange and complete on Friday.

Mylifestartstoday · 31/10/2020 19:31

I’ve sold but not exchanged. If he closes the housing market I will cry

likeamother · 31/10/2020 19:37

Desperately wondering too. They’re still going ahead in Wales during their lockdown though ‘if they can’t reasonably be delayed’ (or words to that effect) so I’m hopeful. Boris also said most businesses can remain open, so assume that includes van rehtao

I can’t afford a removal company though. Had lined up friends to help as per the current guidelines this was allowed, now assuming it won’t be?

I can’t see any alternative than breaking the rules though as I need to move. Been living with ex since February!

PopcornPugs · 31/10/2020 20:17

I’m also living with my ex, I know it’s only another month but a month stuck with your ex where you can’t bubble with anyone else because you’re living with another adult even though that adult is the one person you’d like to be apart from isn’t fun.

Nothing released from our governing body yet but I will imagine house moves will continue given how overwhelmed the system is.

SimoneAndGarfunkel · 31/10/2020 20:27

There'll be new legislation stating what is and what is not lawful during the new lockdown, but it won't have been drafted yet so all we can do is make an educated guess.

The previous lockdown legislation permitted moving house where it was "reasonably necessary" IIRC. I expect they'll resurrect those provisions.

So yes I would expect that moves can go ahead. The Government seem keen to keep house moves going ahead to avoid a crash.

Nomorescreentime · 31/10/2020 20:37

I’m moving next week here in Wales, mid lockdown. I would imagine the rules will be similar although no guarantees obviously. Fingers crossed for you all waiting to hear.

likeamother · 31/10/2020 21:22

@PopcornPugs really hope it can happen for you. It’s not ‘just another month’ when in our situation. Fingers crossed there will be minimal delays for all of us near to moving. Did you have a date before today?

Thinking on it tonight I’m feeling a bit more hopeful. For getting help with the move, we can tap into a willing support bubble as will then be a single household. Not quite the team of helpers I could do with but better than nothing

likeamother · 31/10/2020 21:24

Good luck for your move @Nomorescreentime really pleased for you it’s still going ahead Star

According to this moves can still go ahead 🤞🤞🤞

HibiscusNell · 01/11/2020 01:19

I think it will be ok to
Move house too. I hope so.

PopcornPugs · 01/11/2020 05:08

Thanks for sharing that Frenchsticks 🤞🏻

The housing minister has tweeted that housing market will remain open 👍🏻 Fingers crossed removals do..

Nomorescreentime · 01/11/2020 12:15

That’s good news! Thanks @likeamother. We are exchanging and completing on the same day so will be super stressful right up to the morning we move, but it seemed best in case any of us end up having to isolate. Have you got any cheap man with a van type people around you? Might get around the rules maybe? Hope you get to move ASAP!
