What is the point of Boris announcing another lockdown in a press conference when the bbc and other news outlets have told us already?

It feels like announcing the lottery winners before drawing the numbers.

It makes me so annoyed to have it drip fed all through the day.

I don’t care if we have one or not, but at least Boris should announce it himself, explain clearly the reasoning and not give too much notice to allow all the numpties to have their last parties...

I assume it is to test the waters so they can pull back if needed. Or change the wording of the speech to match the mood.

Me too fuming , mind you will we understand what he's going on about .
I think he just likes to rile us all up so we'll all watch at 5pm then we'll be like what are we on lockdown then ? Like last time .

Do you remember back in May when Boris announced that schools were reopening for year 1 and year 6 and there was a massive outcry from teachers and teaching unions who hadn't expected it at all (at that time)? I think Boris learnt the lesson that big surprises aren't a good idea, so ever since then I've noticed that he has drip fed things in advance.

The media wouldn’t be able to report it if they weren’t briefed. The blame is firmly with the current government and the way they choose to operate.

Well Boris, if you’re reading this before you do your announcement, I completely disagree with this drip feeding, I don’t want to hear it from the bbc, and I don’t want to read “could”, “might”, “may”, “face the prospect of” etc.

I want you to calmly and clearly explain your reasons, and your plans for how to manage it, including sensible measures which are fair to everyone....

I agree, there is a lot less confusion on the rules in France because they give official briefings and then don't let the media ask questions straight afterwards which often just confuse everyone as to what the briefings was.

Yes because the journalists are desperate to trip up the government, and make them look even more incompetent than they are already, and end up completely confusing the message .
