Reinstating shielding.

Has anything been said on if & when shielding is going to be reinstated? Especially if there’s talk of a second national lockdown?

I work clinically in the nhs as there is no other role for me to do, I have brittle asthma [appears well controlled... have severe attacks with little warning.]

There is currently more covid patients in the hospital than there was at the peak last time.

My stress levels are through the roof 😭

Two friends who were in the shielding group earlier on in the year have been contacted by their GPs to suggest they may want to look at shielding again

I don't think there has been any mention of shielding being reinstated. I really don't know what is next.

I'm really starting to worry now. An ICU dr in our hospital sent a post today after he finished a 4 night shift. He said they are def in the thick of wave 2 again. This hospital was hit hard earlier and our area cases are not as high currently as some. It's hard to believe we are in this position again.

My dh was shielding but has said if asked again he wouldn't as the kids are in school and I work in a school. We can't isolate within our home as no space.

My 3 children all shielded last time but I’m not expecting anything now. They’re all older teenagers and them shielding allowed DH to wfh. Thanks to government guidance which effectively removed the shielding protection, I think the clinically vulnerable will be left to get on with it sadly.

I doubt it. I am a teacher. If keyworker children are going to continue to get their free childcare and education, they will need all teachers in school.

In Wales we had an update letter saying he's not asking us to shield, but to be extra careful as cases rising again basically. Still keeping shielding.list open though.

I think it's quite likely that a recall to shielding will be mentioned today, with a start date in a week or so (new letters to be sent out during that time)

They will need to work out if they will offer furlough terms to those who cannot WFH. They'll probably allow daily outside exercise

But with hospitals fuller than they hoped, they really will not want the working age exceptionally vulnerable to become, in effect, bedblockers by becoming ill easily, getting it quite seriously and requiring admission, but then not having the decency to die quickly. Especially as thus is the group that were previously living normal vigorous lives and are miles away from DNR. There's about 700,000 people on the old shield list that fell into that category. Even if only a third or less became ill enough to require admission, it'll completely and utterly stuff up winter bed planning

@scarecola. Nail on head. That's all it was ever about. I'm surprised they haven't re-instated it.
