Rolling Lockdowns

So I guess this is what was explained to us back in March. At the daily briefings

"Rolling lockdowns", meaning strict for a while, to save the health service, then lighter for a while to lift the economy... and repeat for however long it takes

I think we should bring the daily briefings back

Please no to the daily briefings. Everyday at 5pm announcing the latest death figures and never any mention of recovered patients. Not sure why they don't wear grim reaper cloaks and ring a bell.

Yes it's horrible, frightening, but don't you think people need to be informed anymore? Need guidance. Need reminding

I think part of the reason people are not sticking by the rules is because there are no daily briefings anymore. It was a mistake to end them, people became blase. Even thought it was over.

People aren't sticking to the rules because they are losing their jobs, haven't seen their families for months. They don't think it's over, they have decided that they are happy to take the risk. People are being asked to sacrifice too much now.

And the result of that non compliance is our health service swiftly moving towards being overwhelmed.

It isn't about each individual taking their own risk. It's about preventing services, for all of us, being overwhelmed.

I agree op

Boris puts in ‘rules and laws’ but leaves nobody to enforce them except us, the public, sniping at each other

He needs to be on tv reinforcing what he puts in place

Waxonwaxoff0 · 31/10/2020 11:37

That's understandable, but people are being left destitute and that is just as important. If this government want to force us out of work by closing non essential business then people need to be financially compensated.

I come from a TV generation that had public health information films shown constantly. We had a lot of slum clearances and new building works when I was a child and often these public information films were to warn about the dangers of playing on building sites. That kind if thing. My parents remember the war and the daily briefing style radio broadcasts.

I do think it would help people, especially us older generations to focus. Where the heck has Boris been? I know he was quite poorly with covid, its understandable that it would take time to recover, but he has a deputy, a cabinet, the science teams etc. Why isn't he leading us

People aren’t being informed though with daily briefings, they are blindly listening to and eating up everything they are told by the government/sage/media/news without doing any background research themselves. As a PP said never any mention of recoveries or they even the elderly are more likely to survive than die. Honestly wish this had been years ago before SM and 24 hours news

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 31/10/2020 15:17

And when huge swathes of the population are no longer employed who pays for the health service then? Very narrow views

IrkedEssex · 31/10/2020 15:44

The daily briefings were a useful reminder of just how eager the media has been to whip up fear. Of course they also gave SAGE the opportunity to do likewise.

I don't know what to believe any more. One lot of "the science" says we should all lock down and throw away the key. Another lot says this:
