Hospitals to be overwhelmed without lockdown

I keep seeing posts saying lockdown isn't needed, what's the point etc.

It's really worrying that the facts don't seem to be known - this isn't up for debate anymore, the government have been so ineffectual that it's reached an absolute crisis point. This passage from the BBC report is key:

Another document, based on NHS England modelling from 28 October, warns that the NHS would be unable to accept any more patients by Christmas, even if the Nightingale hospitals are used and non-urgent procedures cancelled. The document warns that south-west England and the Midlands will be the first to run out of capacity, potentially within a fortnight

It's terrible, no question, but it's necessary. I don't understand how anyone could say otherwise having read the above.

Yes we wouldn't be having lockdown unless this was the case. Things are going to become dire I'm afraid.

Threeweirdsisters · 31/10/2020 07:44

I agree @lovelemoncurd but I'm seeing so many posts about 'only a few people in hospital' etc - I hope the government can get this message out there as at the moment people really don't seem to know Sad

Leeds hospitals have higher numbers of admissions and deaths due to Covid than in March. If some hospitals have small numbers then they won't for long.

So why all the posts questioning the lockdown? I don't understand Confused

Because they've been fed a lot of nonesense by people who have twisted the facts and statistics because they are ideologically opposed to lockdown. And they've chosen to believe them because it's less scary to believe that lockdown is unnecessary than the alternative, which is that it should have happened weeks ago.

It doesn’t matter! Kids must stay in school and be educated, no matter what the health cost to the nation. Wink

Just read it. Terrifying. I’m sick of the threats of full lockdown, the promises that local action is the way forward, the leaks, everyone predicting another ‘worst case’ scenario, data proving that ‘worst case’, still nothing done....

I just wish someone would decisively act. The longer this mess continues, the less patience and compliance people will have....
