Does Covid feel like a hangover?

I started with a slight cough and had a test and it came back negative. I have now lost my appetite and had diarrhoea and vomited once. Could the test be wrong and this is Covid? It really feels like the aftermath of a big night out but haven't drunk in weeks!
No loss of smell or taste, no fever, headaches or other aches. I feel tired and lethargic but suffer insomnia so that's not new and I still can't sleep so not more tired than normal. Could be a stomach bug but haven't been anywhere to pick one of those up!

It could be any other bug that's going around at the moment, I've had D+V and have loss of appetite too. Probably a tummy bug

Mindymomo · 30/10/2020 08:39

You could have picked up something from food or drink. I get the odd day or two sickness and diarrhoea and I am very careful with food, but you never know how it’s been stored before you buy food.

SameAgainSue · 30/10/2020 11:06

It could of course be any old bug but I'm just really worried in case it's Covid and I have been lulled into a false sense of security by the negative test. Without many 'classic' symptoms though it's hard to say.

I don't think you need to worry about it being Covid as you don't have any symptoms and you had a negative test

Mumisnotmyonlyname · 30/10/2020 11:30

I had diarrhoea and loss of appetite too at the start with Covid. I had to go to bed the day I got it, I was so tired suddenly. Within a day or two I had shivering as well, and a mild cough later in the week.

Toddlerteaplease · 30/10/2020 11:33

I only had a headache. Nothing else. But I've never had a hangover so no idea if Covid compares to that at all!

SameAgainSue · 30/10/2020 11:37

@Mumisnotmyonlyname that sounds like me in reverse, started with mild cough. Did you have a positive test?

All the same diseases you would got last year are all still around. If you’d felt like this last year what would you have done? Do that.
You’ve had a negative test so try not to worry!
Feel better soon Flowers

When you say like a hangover, do you mean it makes you crave a McDonald's breakfast?

SameAgainSue · 30/10/2020 12:05

No the opposite, feeling like eating anything would make me puke. And I am usually an enthusiastic eater!

Last year I'd have just carried on as normal but I feel like I might be putting other people at risk if the test was wrong. I feel like I'm doing the wrong thing whatever I do.

My sister thought she had a hangover, it turned out to be a mild case of covid. I am now so paranoid I haven't had any alcohol just in case I get hangover, I will panic its covid

VanCleefArpels · 30/10/2020 12:20

The only 2 people I know who have had COVID both described it as a hangover and had no cough . The negative test was only valid for that day - I’d get tested again

Idroppedthescrewinthetuna · 30/10/2020 12:24

Also, I have heard of many people testing negative and then positive a couple of days later. I was speaking to NHS direct due to My daughters cough. She was really bad, worse than any cough she has ever had. She didn't get out of bed for days, again this was unusual. She tested negative. Then we had a letter to say that she had been in close contact prior to her getting poorly. I spoke to NHS and they said that some people test negative for a couple of days after symptoms develop so advised me to test her again. Luckily she was negative and has now recovered. She came out of her isolation last week, the same day we were told my 6yr old has to isolate.

SameAgainSue · 30/10/2020 12:29

Fuck fuck fuck. I need another test. Can you just request a second one within days of the previous negative?

If you’ve been sick wont you be staying away from people for 48 hours after the last sickness or diarrhoea?
Doesn’t sound like covid to me- why do you need a test?

miimblemomble · 30/10/2020 12:31

My COVID was exactly like a hangover: headache, indigestion, diarrhoea, tired and run down. Plus sore throat. Didn’t lose smell until a good week into it. Never had a fever or a cough.

CoffeeRunner · 30/10/2020 12:34

It could be. It doesn’t mean the result was false though. Just that the test wasn’t done at the optimum time.

I tested positive in May. And “a hangover” was exactly how I described my initial symptoms. Headache, lethargy, aches, nausea & diarrhoea.

The temp, cough & breathing problems developed over the next couple of weeks.

So it could be Covid. But equally it could be a cold or any other virus.

AllBellyandBoobs · 30/10/2020 12:35

I have just had covid and nausea and diarrhoea were my symptoms. I didn't have a cough at all. I got tested because my husband had a positive test otherwise I would have assumed it was a stomach bug

SpookyNoise · 30/10/2020 12:44

I had a test last Friday which was negative. I had another one on Wednesday which came back as positive. I feel like fuzzy-headed, like a hangover, but also with a tight chest.

Idroppedthescrewinthetuna · 30/10/2020 12:56

Yes you can just get another. They won't test you 5 days after your first symptom though.

Ismellphantoms · 30/10/2020 13:07

My DGS had a positive test before he had symptoms. He was asked to have one because of close contact. He then lost taste and smell. He then had a high temperature. A week on his smell and taste is coming back and he's fine. Covid seems to affect people in so many different ways. It's always best to test.

SameAgainSue · 30/10/2020 17:56

OMG this is so much like a hangover! I now have the mad munchies after not eating for 2 days. Have had second test, Maccies on order...Grin
