My son is in Year 7 at secondary. Due to covid his school didnt teach sex education. I want to talk to him about it all but am not sure where to start or how to do it. Can anyone advise? Or is there a book people coukd recommend?

I’m not sure what you mean. Schools aren’t allowed to just skip parts of the curriculum. If they didn’t teach it because of a temporary closure they’ll teach it later in the year, or in Year 8. There’s no expectation that you’ll have to teach it. The Key Stage 3 science curriculum is online though if you want to see which aspects will be taught.

Do you mean that he missed out on sex education when he was in year 6?

Doesn’t social distancing now negate the need to teach that kind of thing?

As a parent of 2 ds I’d recommend the book What’s happening to me?:Boys. It’s an usbourne book not perfect by any means but reading it with an adult is a good way in to having open and honest conversations.

Why have you not spoken to him about sex before year 7? It’s not just the schools responsibility!
