Colds. Should you get tested?

We’ve all got colds.

No temperature or cough. But how do we know it’s not Covid?

It’s most likely a cold. Even if you had a temp.

It’s up to you. I know a temperature is On the list to get tested for. But I bet you’ve had a cold most years at this time.

On one hand people are being berated if they test when they don’t need to, on the other people are shouting “test! You can’t be too careful!”

We’ve had two colds do the rounds in this house since Dd went back to school, same as every year. Didn’t think twice about it, it was a cold as usual.

(I know said no temp. So no, you don’t need to test).

If you have any of the three symptoms, then you test and stay in until you get a negative result.
If you don't have any of the three symptoms, you don't need to test or stay in as you don't have covid (or at least, your cold symptoms don't increase your general background chance of having it without it producing symptoms), just like you'd ignore the symptoms from a broken leg or chicken pox when thinking about covid.

With colds the main issue is if they come with a couple of coughs in the morning from post-nasal drip all night, etc etc, but it gets somewhat subjective as to what is "a continuous cough" or "a fever" etc.

DS and I had colds a few weeks back. None of the 3 main symptoms. We did not get tested and carried on as normal.

I had a cold. Work tested me. It turned out it was covid. I’m on day 9 now and still haven’t had any of the 3 main symptoms. Unfortunately you can’t get a test for cold symptoms.

This is my concern @Missandra
