Help with track and trace app, possible contact with covid case?

I had a notification on my phone from the track and trace app, couldn't read it all so clicked on it, took me too the app and there's nothing there, notification has vanished. So i don't know of o meed to isolate?

I am away from home at the moment, going home tomorrow, I haven't been anywhere without a mask on, not eaten out anywhere and only popped into a few small shops so not been near anyone for 15+ minutes for the past week or so.

Anyone know how I can find the notification that has vanished?

Sorry for the typos "meant to isolate"

I had this on Saturday morning. Very odd. Be interested to hear if many others have

LarkDescending · 27/10/2020 20:51

Could it have been one of these phantom alerts?

www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-54522438

This issue was supposed to have been fixed.

EmmaOvary · 27/10/2020 20:53

Yes this is a glitch and nothing to worry about (in terms of your health)

Sorry, this is the best link to the story I could find in a hurry: www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.soundhealthandlastingwealth.com/covid-19/nhs-contact-tracing-app-glitch-that-causes-disappearing-false-notifications-is-still-not-fixed/amp/

I had same last week but other than a trip to Aldi and school run I hadn’t been anywhere and certainly not in close contact for 15 mins anywhere.

SellFridges · 27/10/2020 20:54

It’s a problem, as per the BBC article.

Lovemusic33 · 27/10/2020 20:57

Thank you, am hoping its just the glitch. I tend to stay away from people, even at work im only with one other person (I would be told straight away if they tested positive) and I keep my distance from everyone when out so its very unlikely I would be that close to anyone for 15 minutes or more 🤣

My dd's were starting to panic as we are in a travel lodge (which is dead) and they thought we were going have to jump in the car and head home.

Think it's a glitch, I've had two of them. Very odd.

Clairey844 · 27/10/2020 21:05

If it's an actual alert, when you go into the app it will flash red and show you how long until your self isolation ends. I had one of the notifications you mentioned a while back but think it was an error as per the other posters' comments.

I only know this because as you can see I'm currently self isolating lol

Thank you, yes there's nothing at all showing on the app. Sorry you are having to isolate 😢. I wouldn't be surprised if I have been in contact with a case today but not for more than 15 seconds, we stupidly went to IKEA and there was a few people there that didn't care about social distancing but everyone was masked. We rushed around to get out ASAP as it was far too busy. Other than that we haven't been anywhere where we have been close to people.

Im glad its just a glitch (for now).

Basically you get one of these notifications when someone has logged their positive test and your phone has been near there’s at some point. There’s now a second notification explaining the risk has been assessed and that no action is needed.

I’ve had tons of these, at least every other day and today I’ve been pinged twice. I’m in a tier 2 area but on weekends I might go to a pub/restaurant and it’s in a student city so doesn’t surprise me too much!

tigerbear · 28/10/2020 07:52

Knew I could rely on MN to find out about this! I just got the two NHS messages this morning too, but nothing in the app, and was really confused. Knew there’d be advice on here 😊

userxx · 28/10/2020 08:18

@Clairey844 Thanks for that info, surely everyone should know this and yet clearly they don't!!

Blerg · 28/10/2020 08:27

Thanks for this thread. I’ve had two like this. The second time I took a screenshot of the messages so I could read them properly before they vanished. It is quite disconcerting!

Notglam · 28/10/2020 08:34

If you have an iPhone, go to settings - privacy - health and then to the track and trace app exposure list.

Your phone is sent lists of how many people with the app have tested positive about 14 times a day.

It tells you the amount of people you have been in contact with or in the vicinity of. Usually it will be 0, but if you’ve been in the same place as someone ie supermarket and they’ve newly tested positive it will say 1.

You get a notification each time this happens and it usually states that no further action is required.

userxx · 28/10/2020 10:16

@Notglam I can't see track and trace in health ?

Notglam · 28/10/2020 10:36

Settings > privacy > health >Covid exposure logging ON > scroll down to exposure checks (mine is password protected) and you’ll be able to access your log @userxx

screamer1 · 28/10/2020 10:44

How do they work out contact though? What is the timescale of person A testing positive and me getting a notification?

LarkDescending · 02/11/2020 19:25

According to this piece in the Guardian, these ghost notifications now appear to have been correct, but an error in the app meant that they were not accompanied by advice to self-isolate:

www.theguardian.com/world/2020/nov/02/fault-in-nhs-covid-app-meant-thousands-at-risk-did-not-quarantine

tigerbear · 02/11/2020 19:32

Wow @LarkDescending that’s crazy.
The article was a bit long winded, but essentially are they saying that people who did receive these messages should be isolating? As I got one on Friday!

LarkDescending · 02/11/2020 19:54

The app’s initial advice to users was that these notifications could be safely ignored, since they reflected a contact below the risk threshold; now that the NHS risk threshold is known to have been artificially low, one insider said, it is likely that the vast majority of those ghost notifications should in fact have been advice to self-isolate.

“The vast majority” - which leaves room for some of the ghost notifications to have been sent in error, I suppose.

Mines just in settings > exposure notifications
