Please can you help, do I need to isolate?

My mum has tested positive. She started with symptoms on Sunday.

Saturday evening I called to her house as she’d bought my daughter a treat bag for Halloween.

I got out of my car, opener the car boot and stepped back, my mum threw the bag into my boot. We said bye and I left.

I wasn’t there for much longer than a minute or two, it was raining so I quickly got back into the car.
We didn’t get within a meter but for the brief few minutes I was with her I’m not sure we were exactly two meters apart.

What should I do?

No you don’t need to isolate for that amount of contact. It’s only 15 minutes or over I think.

Okay. I’m just panicking as I have to go to work and I don’t want to go if there’s a risk I may have caught it.

Honestly, even if you did get it, it could have been from anyone in the street or shops if it only takes that amount of contact. I don't think you have to isolate as it doesn't come under close contacts.

Being outside cuts the risk too. No I wouldn't say you need to isolate

Ah yes that doesn’t apply to us then. I definitely wasn’t within one meter and I was only there for probably two minutes.

Maybe I’m overthinking but what about when my mum moved away from my boot, I stepped in her place to close it. Couldn’t it be lingering in the air?

I think you're more likely to catch it from the treat bag than from her - did you quarantine what she gave you or wipe it down?

She had wiped it down before she put it in my car. The treats are still in the car, the only thing we touched was a pumpkin she gave us but we washed our hands.

No, you do not have to isolate under track and trace rules. You're way overthinking it.

If it was raining it would be pretty hard for anything to linger in the air. You are not at risk

I'd be happy with the precautions you've taken and would say the chances of you catching it are minimal. I say that as someone who is high risk.

That’s for the reassurance. I literally was only stood outside with her for probably 2 minutes and then I left.

I’m so cautious around people, even my mum.
It’s really panicked me knowing she’s positive.
