On the BBC - older ones he says. Will they listen to him though now he got kicked off Sage? I thought the plan for for part time in secondary not closing if cases rose very high? Hoping this doesn't happen DC mid GCSEs and already missed loads.

I know loads of teachers and yes a some do want schools to close for various reasons.
It's not so they can sit on their backsides doing nothing, because they'd still be working if school was closed.

The same with parents, depending on your viewpoint and/or personal situation.

CallmeAngelina · 26/10/2020 14:58

Anyway, it's entirely irrelevant what teachers do or don't want; it's not up to them.

3littlewords · 26/10/2020 14:59

Same for parents

noblegiraffe · 26/10/2020 15:00

I’m a bit suspicious of these claims of teachers who want schools closed (remote teaching is a ball-ache so why would they?) given how often it is trotted out about teachers on here with no supporting evidence.

Remember the thread where it was claimed it was a ‘vibe’?

Very true!
HelloMissus · 26/10/2020 16:37

That’s a poster here who says they’re a teacher and has been religiously calling for all schools to close until next March.

Who the hell is that? Not seen them.
3littlewords · 26/10/2020 17:33

All this bitchiness needs to stop, for every teacher advocating safer measures does not mean they want schools to close, but likewise for every parent saying schools must stay open doesn't mean they don't care about safety measures or that there isnt a need for them to be improved.
Anyone saying schools may close is not the same as saying they want them closed.
We all have our different reasons and needs but at the end of the day we ALL want the same thing - school open and everyone safe!

noblegiraffe · 26/10/2020 17:36

for every parent saying schools must stay open doesn't mean they don't care about safety measures

You’ve not met Us4Them then? Parent campaign group that doesn’t want any safety measures in schools, all over MN like a rash in the summer, still popping up occasionally now?

Redlocks28 · 26/10/2020 17:39

Wow-they most have said this a lot! Can you post a link?
HelloMissus · 26/10/2020 17:50

CallMe it’s a name with ice cream in it.
I think they’re a vulnerable teacher and really worried. Which I get but it seems a bit much.
They also say parents should be prepared to stay home with their kids and reduce work hours if necessary which I don’t get. I mean they must know that’s not possible for loads of folk.

CallmeAngelina · 26/10/2020 18:01

I can't see where they have called for schools to close until March though??

HelloMissus · 26/10/2020 18:09

Maybe not on this thread but plenty of others.
As I say, I understand the anxiety but it’s a bit over the top.

noblegiraffe · 26/10/2020 18:45

I’ve just looked up the poster I’ve seen with Icecream in their name on schools threads and they are neither a teacher nor calling for schools to close Confused

Why is it that posters making these claims never provide links?

Given that people have claimed so many times including on this thread that I want schools to close, I’m concluding that the posters that pop up to claim this are Us4Them trying to claim I’m arguing for something that they can disagree with (and stop people reading what I’m actually saying) because they can’t argue with what I’m actually saying (improve safety measures in schools), which we know for a fact Us4Them really don’t want.

CallmeAngelina · 26/10/2020 18:56

EXACTLY, @noble.

3littlewords · 26/10/2020 19:04

I've no idea what Us4Them are about but why would anyone not want better safety measures in school? That's baffling Confused

CallmeAngelina · 26/10/2020 19:16

There seems to be quite a clear agenda from members of the Us4 Them group to get schools open at all costs. Literally.
And it is also quite clear that some of those members are on some of the MN schools/Corona threads.

@hellomissus

Can you link to just one thread where this teacher has said they want schools to close till March?

If they have been calling for it religiously, it will presumably be easy to do.

Slightlybrwnbanana · 26/10/2020 19:25

UFT are against windows being open, water fountains being closed, hand sanitiser being used, desks being cleaned, and absolutely against any whiff of a mask in schools.

Slightlybrwnbanana · 26/10/2020 19:27

(This is not my opinion of what they want by the way, it is what they state themselves)

3littlewords · 26/10/2020 19:29

Why though? thats madness! I can only assume they are people who just like to argue and protest about anything and everything just for the sake of it without giving a toss about what it is they are fighting for
noblegiraffe · 26/10/2020 19:34

Here they are complaining that not singing Happy Birthday to their child in a small, crowded, poorly ventilated classroom to reduce transmission risk will make their child feel less special.

Here they are wanting to sue headteachers who require masks in schools

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8571373/Headteachers-SUED-irrationally-forcing-pupils-wear-face-masks.html

Here's one of their template letters to complain about whatever you like:

noblegiraffe · 26/10/2020 19:36

Maybe if you were unaware of all this, 3littlewords you'll understand what teachers are on about now?

This lot have been campaigning on MN for months.

Possibly. I also think there wasn't an awful lot of critical thinking or reasoning to spare between the lot of them. Looking back on some of those links, I feel more and more 🤦‍♀️ like I did when Boris blustered about his right to handshake who he liked.
