I have the app but I haven’t been anywhere to check in, I got a message last night to say I had been in contact with somebody but I don’t need to isolate. I found out this morning that a friend of mine has tested positive . I had seen her the week before. Would the app pick up that I had seen her.

Was it the disappearing glitch message you got? If there isn't anything in the app about isolating then you can ignore the other message.

If you hadn't seen her in the 48 hours before her symptoms started then you wouldn't be contacted

If she has the app and you do too then it should have registered that your phones were close. If it was outwith the time frame of her being contagious then it would see you don't need to isolate

@Doseydots

Thank you, I didn’t realise our phones would link up,
That's pretty much the purpose of the app, are you definitely talking about the main Covid 19 app, what did you think it was for?
dementedpixie · 20/10/2020 20:45

Did you think it was just for checking in?

It does much more than that and uses Bluetooth to connect with the app on other people's phones so you don't need to know everyone's contact details if you get a positive test. The app will alert contacts and tell them if they need to isolate

Yeah I thought you had to scan the barcodes at places.
