Another Self Isolation Question, sorry

Son was sent home from work today as a work colleague has tested positive. Son is feeling ok and happy to isolate for 14 days. The company is going to send a private home testing kit for him. I’ve told him to wait and see if he gets symptoms, but he says he could have it without symptoms, which I agree, so he thinks he will do the test when it comes.

If he does the private test with no symptoms, do the rest of us have to isolate until he gets results?

No you only need to isolate if he develops symptoms or gets a positive result.

Testing negative during the incubation period 14 days) does not release you from isolation. So he has to do his 14 days.

You do not need to isolate. But he should be isolating from you within the home, and it would be right for you to be utterly diligent in distancing from other people.

No, you don't.

You will need to isolate if he develops symptoms or tests positive.

He might be better to wait and see if he gets symptoms before testing or he will have to test again. Also, the labs are overwhelmed at the moment. I've been waiting over 100 hours for my test result so far and have been told there are long delays because of the sheer number of tests. If symptomless people get tested it then blocks up the system further for people who are testing because they have symptoms. Your son is isolating anyway. Others will be waiting for a negative result so they can get back to work/school etc.

Thank you all for your replies, they are very helpful. Yes, he will isolate for however long and has shut himself away from us. We are retired, but another son works.

@MarjorytheTrashHeap. Thanks, he wouldn’t bother but his work is sending private test, they haven’t said that he has to take it when it comes, but he is going to wait and see.
