Has anyone been contacted by Test and Trace?

A friend tested positive 10 days ago.

He was asymptomatic but is being tested regularly because of his work. 2 days before the positive test he had played in a sports match, followed by a meal in the club house.

He reported his positive test to contact tracing and to the sports club. The Club, in line with their Covid secure process, identified his contacts (at the dinner) and four people were advised to isolate, which they have done, but no one he knows or the club has been contacted by Test and Trace.

Would they have decided it was unecessary, as they're Covid secure?

My friend has been contacted by t&t today after testing positive on Saturday and they have contacted his contacts, he was also contacted by local public health as works in a public facing job so it is working in some scenarios. It's based on when you saw people, for how long, how nearby and whether you were wearing ppe etc. You would have thought if he was sat with those people they would be close contacts. I had a meal with my friend 2 days and 2 hours before he developed symptoms so wasnt contacted although have decided to isolate anyway.

Do T &T know your profession and where you have been socially before they ring you for contacts? Should they not ideally be calling ALL positive cases?

Yes, I think they're supposed to contact all positive cases. They've spoken to him but they don't seem to have followed up any of his contacts. I wondered if that's incompetence Grin or part of the plan with the club only open because its "covid secure", so should have it's own procedures in place.

It depends how close they were to your friend and for how long. This explains it pretty well- www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.bbc.co.uk/news/amp/explainers-52442754

@RunBackwards surely T &T should contact people aswell though, some employers might need official notice to isolate or to be able to claim the £500 isolation grant if eligible. Also wouldn't that make it legally binding to isolate rather than Dave the local landlord telling you Jeff's tested positive so you need to isolate?

They had a meal together, an hour or so around a table. I'd think they make the cut?

Yes, that's what I'd have expected. Although to get the isolation note, you only put your own details in online.

My DD, an undergraduate who caught Covid 19 soon after arriving at university, has been contacted literally dozens of times after being named as a contact by other students. None of the people contacting her have any awareness either that she is already confirmed as positive or that she has been named and contacted as a close contact of other positive cases, despite the fact that they are all using the same unique telephone number to contact her on. I’m sure all of these contacts are being claimed as test and traces successes in the statistics despite the fact that they are achieving nothing, wasting time and resources and actually were a bit of a drain on her when she did feel quite under the weather. This and the fact that so many others are not being contacted at all makes me think the reality is likely to be even worse than the published statistics suggest.
