False Negative test?

Colleague at DH's work tested positive on Thursday, same day DH came down with symptoms. I got the same symptoms yesterday. DH's test results came back positive, mine came back negative!

I'm very certain I have it so will obviously be continuing to quarantine.

How common are false negatives? Has anyone else experienced this and if so, did you get another test?

My friends daughter was really ill so friend booked a test for daughter and herself. Friend with no symptoms was positive and daughter was negative. Convinced the tests got mixed up they went for another test and came back the same!

Count yourself lucky you got your results the next day, some on here are still waiting 5 days on.
It could be a false negative but as you'll be isolating for 14 days due to living with someone with a positive test there's absolutely no need to waste a test and take another one.

@AvoidingRealHumans yep, the system seems very flawed and just luck of the draw as to how quickly it comes back and how far you have to go for a test. Having a positive would however change how many days I'm required to isolate for as it's 10 days from symptoms starting if you're positive.
