How long are people currently waiting for test results in London? My youngest ds had a test this afternoon, and need results ASAP obviously, so I know whether or not we need to self isolate

OP posts:
CarlottaValdez · 18/10/2020 17:22

I just got mine (negative!). So from posting it Thursday, not too bad.

Tomliboosrule · 18/10/2020 17:35

87 hours in the south east close to London.

Tsaminamina · 18/10/2020 17:44

I'm in London. In the past week I waited 55 hours for results to come back (negative).

betrayedandwobbly · 18/10/2020 17:47

XH still waiting - 55 hours (outside London, out to the west)

I'm Distinctly Miffed, because if I'm going to have to replanning half term I want to be getting on with sorting that out now

wonderpants · 18/10/2020 18:15

I just got results 27 hours after drive-through. (Greater Manchester)

MarjorytheTrashHeap · 18/10/2020 19:20

Does anyone know if it takes longer over the weekend? Maybe fewer people working in the labs?

DSS went to a walk-in testing centre at his London university during the week and got the results back within a few hours, so I assume universities are processing the tests on-site.

betrayedandwobbly · 19/10/2020 07:23

68 hours - negative

(Glad for him, but cross with the system. If we'd known that at the 48 hour point it would have made quite a disproportionate RL difference).

teacherlife · 19/10/2020 11:49

Took 1 week in London.

CovidClara · 19/10/2020 11:50

Just under 24 hours- drive through in the North. Tested yesterday

BlindAssassin1 · 19/10/2020 12:00

Ordered postal test last Sunday, got it Monday lunchtime, back in post to Glasgow from SW that afternoon. Results 8am Thursday morning.

Friend and her partner did the same but about 2 weeks earlier. He got his in good time. They lost hers. She spent ages on the phone chasing it up, got some weird advice to speak to NHS direct and/or call her GP, and to call a ambulance if her lips turned blue. She was not impressed.

MarjorytheTrashHeap · 19/10/2020 12:11

@teacherlife

Took 1 week in London.
Good grief.
flomp · 19/10/2020 12:13

Just had test this morning in Surrey, they told me it’s taking 5 days currently and not to chase before then Shock

bibbidybobbidyboo · 19/10/2020 12:37

In London, currently on hour 51 and still waiting... (Walk-in clinic)

MarjorytheTrashHeap · 19/10/2020 12:53

That is just ridiculous. The system is clearly overwhelmed and cannot cope, leaving hundreds of thousands in limbo. Numbers of tests required are only going to climb as the infection rate rises. If they cannot manage to increase lab capacity, we maybe need some sort of triaging system before taking a test if it as they have in other countries, eg a poster mentioned on a previous thread that in Ireland you contact your GP and go through your symptoms and they tell you if you need to be tested.

I wonder if testing is still being outsourced to labs in Italy and Germany. That doesn't bode well if there's a no-deal Brexit and tests need to be transported across borders!

parrotonmyshoulder · 19/10/2020 12:56

Mine has been four days now. I’m a teacher and DH is a Doctor. We are on our third potentially wasted working day. I am expecting that it’s lost or inconclusive so we’ll see end up doing 14 days anyway.

parrotonmyshoulder · 19/10/2020 12:57

Easy to get a test. 2 hours after I requested it. That’s the kind of thing that’s getting reported. No good having available tests but not processing them!

I just emailed my MP and said exactly this. Getting the test was actually extremely easy. Ther's no point in that if you can't get a result though!
parrotonmyshoulder · 19/10/2020 13:23

It would be very interesting to know whether these tests that were taking too long were more likely to be ‘inconclusive’ or lost...

Mysa74 · 19/10/2020 13:25

Stansted airport last week, negitive result back in 19 hours. Tested at 11am, results at 6am next day. I was very impressed with the whole process.

MarjorytheTrashHeap · 19/10/2020 13:33

Hmm, I went to Stansted last time we needed a test in the Spring and had the result back quickly then too. I foolishly thought going to the critical testing facility might get them back quicker!

My daughter was supposed to be doing an aptitude test for entrance to our preferred secondary school this afternoon. Now she won't be able to do it and will almost certainly not get a place there, all due to stupid delays in testing. Sad

parrotonmyshoulder · 19/10/2020 13:59

Majorie, that’s awful. Poor DD.

Whycatspaint · 19/10/2020 14:30

I’m now at 115 hours waiting for DS test. Chased this morning and was told they would contact me if they located it. Otherwise the full isolation period would need to be done. 2 kids out of school since Thursday one year 11

Chickenandegg8 · 19/10/2020 14:34

It’s an absolute joke. My mum is part of the ONS study, hers took 6 days. She had no symptoms either so was just carrying on as normal. It then took track and trace 4 days to contact her.
She’d already contacted people she knew she’d been in contact with, but what hope is there when the whole system is in such a mess.

Honkyzeke · 19/10/2020 14:41

My mother in law recently had a minor operation, so she had to take a COVID test 3 days before, they told her to 'assume' it was negative if she hadn't heard anything within 48 hours!

Rosehassometoes · 19/10/2020 16:25

147 hours and counting
