Trigger for move from tier 1 to 2

While this was being trailed in the media, BBC reported that 100 cases per 100K would be the trigger for moving from tier 1 to tier 2. My area surpassed that at the beginning of this week, and we are now over 120 case/100K. Just 3 weeks ago, it was 28.

So it's not as simple then as the infection rate....

Why are Essex so keen? there's no financial impetus as with tier 3

@Spacemonkey2016
The area I live in (which is actually 3 villages) has had barely any cases, same with most of the district. Its a very rural district apart from 2 towns. This is probably outing but one of those towns includes the most deprived ward in the country and the other is an international port. I can't see the restrictions making any difference at all in the deprived area, its residents are not renowned for being law abiding at the best of times.

I seem to remember that there was going to be a targeted approach to restrictions. Well this doesn't feel very targeted to me. In fact, the fact that 10min walk from me will still be level 1 simply says its not at all targeted

82/100 in my area of Essex. Really angry that we have moved to tier 2. I went out this morning and overheard that our local bar is now closing because they cannot make enough money to cover their outgoings due to the change in restrictions. I was also told that our district council supported the county council in their decision. Well, it’s easy for people to make decisions when their livelihoods are not going to be ruined.

According to covid messenger our numbers went down from yesterday to today, as did the neighbouring districts. And that's the trouble when you live in a sparsely populated area, a few extra cases and you jump up a lot in the number per 10000. I'm guessing there's been a cluster over the last couple of weeks, a couple of families testing positive is going to make a huge difference in numbers here, while the same couple families testing positive will make virtually no difference to the overall numbers in a more populated area.

Essex CC have removed this page from their tracker. Guess they didn’t like the public seeing figures which disagreed with what they were saying

@Polkadotties - where did you find that page? Or did you manage to screen grab before it was removed? I am so cheesed off with Essex CC I can't even begin to tell you.

Polkadotties · 16/10/2020 18:34

I found this screen shot on twitter but I have accessed it several times. You can now only see a graph

@Whatever9999 Yes, my area has gone down to 78/100 today. It is clear that the numbers are not increasing rapidly.
